4-4.5 stars!!! Now THIS is the Jessica Sorensen I know and love. A little more on the ya side, but a sweet, beautiful, emotional and fun ‘friends to more’ story that didn’t end in a terrible cliffhanger, but let you wanting more! Lyric Scott is the daughter of musician Micah Scott and his wife Ella. Yes. That Micah and Ella. She is fun, sweet and spunky. She wants to make music and can’t find the right lyrics... ironic, huh? Bored. Ordinary. That’s what my life is. And ordinary doesn’t 4-4.5 stars!!! Now THIS is the Jessica Sorensen I know and love. Lyric Scott is the daughter of musician Micah Scott and his wife Ella. Yes. That Micah and Ella. She is fun, sweet and spunky. She wants to make music and can’t find the right lyrics... ironic, huh? Bored. Ordinary. That’s what my life is. And ordinary doesn’t make awesome music. Meeting Ayden Gregory may change that. Ayden has been through a lot. He’s the newly adopted teenage son of Lila and Ethan. He’s at a new place and knows no one, but Lyric makes him feel welcome. She wants him to be happy. To be his friend. I love how she introduces herself to him and has him pass the ‘friend test’. “Okay, you passed the music test. Now we can be friends.” “What if I don’t want to be friends with you?”
“You do. I promise. Not only am I the most awesome person ever, but I can show you the ropes of your new life. So what do you say? Friends?”
“All right, we can be friends, Lyric.”
Lyric makes it her mission to make Ayden happy. Make him smile. Give him something to smile about. Lyric and Ayden’s friendship is something that kept a permanent smile on my face. I loved the two of them together. They had a special friendship. Lyric was an amazing heroine. I love girls like that- ones that are confident in who they are and can just be themselves and have fun. Lyric is a heroine who treats others with love, kindness and respect. She is bubbly, feisty and fun. Nothing fazes that girl. It’s the most terrifying and fascinating thing to observe.
Ayden is more on the damaged side. His upbringing has been opposite of Lyric’s. He has had a hard life. The things we found out about his upbringing was enough to bring me to tears. I love that he has Lyric in his life. His adoptive family love him and treat him well, but Lyric is just so special for him. She is his best friend, but so much more that that. Nothing makes me happier in a story than damaged boys, strong and fun heroines and I do love me a good friends to romance tale. And Jessica Sorensen knows how to write, so this was right up my alley. Watching Lyric and Ayden’s friendship grow into that more was my favorite part about it. They both tried to fight it in some small way or another, especially Ayden. But some feelings are just too strong to fight. Unraveling You was an enjoyable read for me. It was fast, the characters were lovable and watching them grow together and develop feelings for one another was wonderful. I wish it were a little longer, because I was not ready for it to end. I’m excited to read the next one and can’t wait to see what lies ahead for Ayden and Lyric!

3.5-4 stars! Whenever I pick up a Jessica Sorensen book, I know to expect the following things: damaged yet inexplicably endearing main characters, depressing storyline, and cliffhangers. That is just her storytelling trademark and nowadays I have come to embrace these aspects that when combined, make for one compelling read. I was especially excited to read this book because as a fan of her Secret series, it’s awesome to revisit those previous characters in this story plus, the hero and heroine 3.5-4 stars! That is just her storytelling trademark and nowadays I have come to embrace these aspects that when combined, make for one compelling read. I was especially excited to read this book because as a fan of her Secret series, it’s awesome to revisit those previous characters in this story plus, the hero and heroine are Lila & Ethan’s son and Ella & Micha’s daughter! Lyric Scott is the beloved and somewhat spoiled daughter of Ella & Micha Scott. In her free time she jams out to music, plays a variety of instruments, and hangs out with Lila & Ethan’s kids next door, all of whom are adopted. Their most recent kid they take in is Ayden Gregory, a deeply troubled teenager with both physical and emotional scars acquired from his rocky childhood time. Upon seeing how bleak and sad Ayden is, Lyric promises herself to be his friend and use her positivity to influence him to live life happily and with no regrets. Ayden is a damaged boy through and through. His memory of his childhood is foggy but he does know the scars on his body are cruelly inflicted by others. Having been ripped away from his siblings and tossed through the foster care system like a rag doll, Ayden struggles with the concept of love and shies away from intimacy, except when it comes to Lyric. Her bubbly and bright personality is like a ray of sunshine to him and her happiness is contagious. As his acquaintanceship with her goes from friendship and develops into a tender romance, Ayden finds that despite all his fears of rejection and loss, he can’t and doesn’t want to resist Lyric... For the most part, I really liked this story! It’s a YA book that later turns into a romance between the two main characters so I appreciated that there was no insta-love whatsoever. The character development is obvious and it was a bonus to see past beloved characters become parental figures. My main complaint is the short length of the book. It read more like a big novella than a full length novel and so when the book ended, I felt like the story had just started to pick up momentum and then flat-lined with the ending. The ending is a mild cliffhanger, not one that sends you reeling but one that concludes on a high note and gives you an anticipatory feeling. Unraveling You is the first book in the Unraveling You series focusing on the children of the characters from the Secret series. It is not a standalone and Lyric and Ayden’s story will be told over the course of three books. ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Lyric and Ayden were really likable they both have a love of music and a friendship that blossoms into true love. ”But it wasn’t just the kiss. It was … Lips. Aching. A touch. The contact. The connection. The rush. It brought my soul back to life. And I’m fucking terrified.” Ayden’s past seems to come into play at the end when his memories are needed for justice. This was a great first installment to this new series. I’m all in and counting down the days for the next book. ”Face my future. For me Jessica Sorensen is an author who writes depressing books and I’m not fan of depressing stories. This one left me with many questions and the fact that there weren't love scenes made me not like it so much. Sometimes I don't have too much of a problem when there aren't love scenes but in this one it might be the problem because I didn't find anything to hook me and impress me! However I'm happy that the next book is already out and now I can finally find out if Ayden solves his problems.

3.5 stars! This was the exact perfect book I needed for my reading mood right now!!! Short review: I really enjoyed this book. It's definitely more on the young adult scale than new adult at the moment. I can see how in the next few books it could build to an NA level but for now it's sweet contemporary YA. This is the story of Lyric and Ayden, children of the characters from The Secret series. Now, you do not have to read those books to understand this series, but I highly recommend reading them 3.5 stars! This was the exact perfect book I needed for my reading mood right now!!! Lyric is the high on life daughter of Ella and Micha, she's a teenager and everyone loves her. Ayden has just been adopted by Lila and Ethan, and lived a very traumatic past, most of which he has mentally blocked and cannot remember. The two end up becoming unlikely friends and forging a great bond. I can't really say more than that plot wise. The book flew by and I couldn't put it down. I am a bit glad I waited to read this series, because now I can binge read them all instead of waiting for the next installments. I highly recommend if you like emotional reads that make you smile.

These two become best friends and very slowly their feeling for each other become more until Aydens past resurfaces. Now they want Ayden to try and remember what happened during a week that he has no memory about. He's scared to remember because he has a gut feeling that it was very bad. He doesn't want to lose Lyric or his new family. I loved both Ayden and Lyric! They were both very likable characters. Ayden was shy and I loved how he wanted to please his new parents. I also loved how he could be the bad boy when needed. Him and Lyric were complete opposites. I can't wait to read the next book and see what happens. I had no idea that they are the daughter and son of couples from a different series that I haven't read. This was a perfect best friends to lovers book that I would recommend to friends:))

She plays many instruments and she loves to write lyrics. It's her favorite thing to do musically. She has many friends. She also hangs out with her neighbors’ kids (who are adopted), who are friends of her parents. Ayden is the newly adopted 16 years old son of Lyric’s neighbors, Lila and Ethan. Ayden has a rough past. He doesn’t remember exactly what happened to him in the past,at least not all. He has regrets and he misses his real siblings. He is damaged and a little lost. He had many foster parents, so stability is what’s uncertain to him. Lila and Ethan’s home is his new home. Is the home. “People want puppies. Cute, fixable puppies. Yet here I am, supposedly wanted by the Gregorys, despite my scars and issues.” Lyric sees how uncomfortable and unhappy Ayden is and she wants to be his friend. She's determined to make him smile. She wants him to be happy. Music is one of the things they have in common. If for Lyric, music is everything and it means happiness, for Ayden is the only thing that can calm him down from certain thought and memories. Time passes, and they relationship starts to change in a lovely way from friends to more. This was such a sweet and refreshing story. I loved both main characters. Lyric was fantastic. She is a strong heroine and she has such a big heart. She is confident, funny and loves to smile, laugh and she enjoys life. I loved her relationship with her parents and the way she is with Ayden from the beginning is just great. Poor Ayden. My heart broke for him. I loved how Lyric and her family brings him peace. He is a lost boy, but he treats everyone with kindness. He is sweet with Lyric and treats her well. Together, Lyric and Ayden are adorable. They warmed my heart. I enjoyed how their relationship progressed, slow and the way they are with each other. I also liked the side characters, Lyric’s parents and Ayden’s adoptive family. They were fantastic. Overall, an enjoyable read with endearing characters, a lovely storyline and a sweet romance.

Short and Sad I adored The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden, but my next two Jessica Sorenson reads haven't impressed me. With plentiful typos and unfinished story lines, both The Redemption of Callie & Kayden and this novel feel like rush jobs. I read this story in about two hours, making it seem more like a novella then a novel. Lyric is the daughter of musicians Micah and Ella (unfortunately, I haven't read their series yet). Lyric is fun and impulsive, and plays about four musical instruments herself. When her neighbors adopt another child, she must run over and meet him. Ayden is a newly adopted 16-year-old who appears haunted. He doesn't know what to make of the boisterous Lyric, but her presence does eventually relax him. We learn that his neglectful, drug-addicted mother allowed some creeps to kidnap him and his siblings, and the kidnappers abused him. But we don't learn the specifics and *poof* suddenly the book is over. I'm okay with cliffhangers for the most part, but in this case I felt cheated because there's not much character development for Ayden. I do like the intrigue behind Lyric's effusive personality. When she mentions that her aunt has Bipolar Disorder, I thought "Aha!" I had wondered if she was in a manic phase. And the author explores PTSD well in her stories. I shed a few tears over Ayden. Will I continue the series? Not sure. The author is prolific so I wouldn't have to wait long, but I wish she focused more on quality than on quantity.

Reading Aydens POV made me incredibly sad, the way he felt about himself broke my heart. But I was happy Lyric was the complete opposite of him, always super cheerful and happy. Loved how she always tried to make him smile no matter what and weren't throwing fits when he wasn't sharing anything with her (like most heroines do in NA). They fit together great and their interactions brought smile on my face (when they weren't talking about sad stuff). I loved how this book is a second generation book by Jessica S. I still remember Ella's and Micha story, and now reading about them as parents brought something really special to the story. Also, the way both main characters expressed themselves in music lyrics was pretty amazing. It would have been 5 stars if it didn't feel a bit short, I felt like the story just started when I finished the book. Maybe that's why I waited so long to pick these series up again.

Great start to a new series that reunites readers with former characters (Ella & Micha and Lila & Ethan) through their children. This is Lyric and Ayden’s story. It has heartbreaking moments but each one is countered with something good and special. Lyric is an especially lovable character and Ayden, who has endured some unbelievably horrible abuse throughout his young life, recognizes those traits in her almost immediately. I am not going to say much more – every reader needs to walk the path with these two and enjoy each moment in the beginning of their story without a hint of what’s to come. I can’t wait until January 13th to meet up with Ayden and Lyric once again when the next installment is scheduled for release. There are so many questions regarding Ayden’s life that are just begging to be answered. It appears Jessica Sorensen has once again hooked me with the start of a new series.

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!!! As Lyric would say: The book is mostly listed as "New Adult", but it's not! Both main characters are 16-17 years old, so it's rather a Young Adult romance. The two main characters couldn't be more different, yet their friendship was beautiful and perfect! I loved the mystery in the book, even the drama, though the book was really well-balanced and it was not filled with unnecessary suspense. I really recommend this book for everyone! Plus, I think it's still free on Amazon (link), so there is zero risk trying it out. ***** 5 stars *****

I had no idea this was extra-YA as in all they do is kiss. (Once or twice, maybe?) -- in case you were wondering. Aside from that, most of the story felt flat and boring. Of course, it ends with a cliffy. What else is new? I'll probably skip this series for now. Not feeling it. I had no idea this was extra-YA as in all they do is kiss. Little slow for my taste. But still solid read. And that huge cliffhanger...

"Lyric is the sunshine in my world. She keeps me going when things get really dark." Loved it! It the second generation of Ella and Micha's story! Now it's about Ella and Micha's daughter Lyric and Ayden, the adoptive son of Ethan and Lila! <3 Yeah! It's so great! Now I cant wait for the next book! Book 1 felt like was only a teaser! I am left with so many questions about Ayden! About his tortured broken past! I felt his sadness. His a great broken guy and I wish I could fix him. "Lyric is the sunshine in my world. His a great broken guy and I wish I could fix him. “You and I”—she points back and forth between us—“we’re going to be one of those people who are still friends when we’re super old, like our parents.” Lyric, wow, I love her character. Really she's a daughter of Ella and Micha, I love her happy straight forward witty attitude like when you are so down you just need her and everything will be alright in the world. Ayden's so lucky to have her. She helped him be okay, helped him to adjust to his new environment. "You’re the best friend I could ever ask for. No, you’re more than that. Way, way more than that.” What also made this book was knowing my favorite characters Ella and Micha and Ethan and Lily were still part of the story, although now their not the made characters they still did play a big part in this story because now they are the parents of these teenagers. Cant wait for book 2 coming this january!

UNRAVELING YOU is the first book in a spin off series involving Ella and Micha’s daughter, Lyric and Ethan and Lila’s newly adopted son named Ayden. I don’t know why I haven’t read this book sooner because this series has been one of my all-time favorites for a long time. I worried that Sorensen would try to extend something good and ruin it. However, that is not the case. Lyric and Ayden’s story is unique on its own, proving how talented a writer Jessica Sorensen really is. However, that is not the case. Lyric and Ayden’s story is unique on its own, proving how talented a writer Jessica Sorensen really is. UNRAVELING YOU tackles the slightly younger age sixteen where a teen’s vulnerabilities are high. Ayden is just entering a new home with an established family and is slowly adjusting to his new life. He holds a lot of reservations because, like everything else in his life, he believes that this is temporary. Lyric, on the other hand, is bright and cheery always. She is the key that opens the door to Ayden’s trust. She earns this by being nice to him, making him smile and sticking up for him when school people try to mess him up. If you’ve read the Secret series, then you know that Ella’s mother has bi polar disorder so there’s a small hint wondering if Lyric has also inherited this disorder since she is always so upbeat. Their story lies on the more sweeter side of things. Since they are younger, Sorensen takes a different approach to this book. It shows just how well she is able to adjust her writing, but also how capable she is of writing different age groups. I think her voice fits a lot of different ranges. There’s no sex, just a few stolen kisses but since their story does continue in book two, I’m sure it’ll be inevitable. A perfect balance of rawness and authenticity, Sorensen once again delivers a story that satisfies.

Oh my gosh. This book..I’m in awe. Lyric is bubbly, beautiful young woman. She’s full of joy and happiness and wants to spread it wherever she can especially with the sad boy who just moved in next door. Ayden has a past, a past he keeps to himself so afraid of letting go or getting close to anyone. When he moves in with his new family he’s just waiting for them to give up on him. I’m not gonna lie, my heart aches every time Ayden’s past is brought up, the way he feels and the way he reacts is a punch straight to the gut and you just can’t help but be sad and devastated for him. I’m in complete awe of this book and I’m eager to see how the next one goes after the news this poor guy just got. I’ve been say with this book on my kindle since 2015 and I’m absolutely annoyed at myself for not reading it earlier. I love these characters, I’m obsessed, I need to go read more straight away.

I am actually very surprised with this book. Jessica Sorensen, I have to applause. It was very well written and the characters were amazing. Lyric is Micha and Ella's daughter. Aiden is Lila and Ethan's adopted son. I'll be honest, when I first heard about this book, I couldn't stop rolling my eyes. I'm not a big fan of Ella and Micha (but I love Ethan and Lila) and I thought that this book would be just another chance to hear about them again. But I got a small thing for Sage. Anyways, when Lyric beat the kid with the basketball? Awesome. When they rode the car? Awesome. When they rode the bike together and failed? Awesome. Now to wait to find out Aiden's past!!! And cheers to Jessica for writing a book where they can just be friends. They (view spoiler)[didn't end up having sex, (hide spoiler)] P.S. I actually just read that book in two and a half hours. Wow, I seriously need to get a life... Anyway, this was a good, emotional, short book. I really liked Lyric, how abrasive and straight up she was. Ayden was one of those broken bad boys! Who kind of broke my heart. It was super sad that he couldn't rememeber his past. I knew as soon as I started this, that I would be left wondering - and I kinda wish I would have waited until January when the next one comes out, cause I really want to know w I actually just read that book in two and a half hours. That was phenomenal. I'm not gonna be able to wait two freaking month for the next book. I need the rest of Ayden and Lyric's story right now. This book made me feel so much, it's crazy... 4.5 This was a sweet but heart breaking book. I was thrilled when I found out that this was about Ella and Micha's daughter Lyric. And Ethan and Lila's son Ayden. As sweet as this was there hints of darkness. You can feel it in every action from Ayden. It was breaking my heart. The ending was in the usual JS style. Leaves you a mess and with a heart breaking cliffy. I cant wait to read the next book. 4.5 This was a sweet but heart breaking book. 4.25 I love Jessica Sorensen's writing style, it's so easy to read her stories, and you fly with her books This series is kind of a Spin-off of her Secret series, however, it's 20 years later, and it focuses on Lyric (you have to read the secret series first to discover who Lyric is, and it's worth it) I liked this first book, I'm looking forward to continue on this series!!!!! I've missed Lila, Ethan, Micha and Ella!! love these characters, and the new ones =) 4.25 I love Jessica Sorensen's writing style, it's so easy to read her stories, and you fly with her books This series is kind of a Spin-off of her Secret series, however, it's 20 years later, and it focuses on Lyric (you have to read the secret series first to discover who Lyric is, and it's worth it) I liked this first book, I'm looking forward to continue on this series!!!!!
