Slightly outside of this war, there are two types of special people on the earth: Strong Walkers and Prison Keepers. Walkers are capable of becoming a Keeper, but most don't ever get the privilege. There is only one Keeper at any one time. The duty of the Keeper is long and arduous. A Keeper's only job is to keep the soul of Lucifer securely imprisoned and separate from his hidden body.
