I am really looking forward to trying these patterns, however, and admitting I'm a newer sewer, this book is not user friendly. The patterns have to be traced with tracing paper or copied via printer. (patterns are printed in the back of the book on both sides of the page so no cutting directly from the book.) The book does not lie flat. Also, the patterns do not include seam allowances which is annoying. Perhaps that is why the book was relatively inexpensive. There is a brief YouTube sneak peek for the tutorial for the hippo but I've yet to find the complete video.

Admittedly, I'm a mite biased; Mariska Vos-Bolman's patterns are some of my favorites, and I've been sewing for long enough that "jargon-free" instructions aren't something that will impact my crafting experience a bit. What you need to know, primarily, is that her patterns are stylish and workable for a wide variety of materials.
