Argh... I seem to have been plagued by bad book suggestions on Amazon. I was drawn to this book because the cover looked somewhat fallen-esque, And i really loved reading those. It had Nora, our protagonist, mooning over a perfect and flawless jock she used to be friends with, until he and his buddies tried to rape her, against the school lockers, in broad daylight, our book hero Hunter swoops in, kicks ass, saves the day and not one teacher, or pupil hears the noises of a 5 on 1 fight. Which is ridiculous. So after he showed his super human abilities in protecting the helpless heroin from rapists (sounding familiar here?) he then disappears for 3 days (yeah..I'm serious, just like Twilight) There are 'animal attacks' and bodies found drained of blood, Hunters eyes are described as 'golden/red' (are you freakin serious?!) and here's a unique one...he can read minds (at this point I almost had a kindle shaped hole through my window..but I refuse to sacrifice my baby because of this...'book') because i'm essentially throwing money out of the window, every time I pay for one of these terrible books So after what...2 or 3 extraordinarily brief encounters, Hunter bares his soul and show's Nora his mind reading abilities, and they're acting like bff's I think I'm going to finish this book, purely because it will take me another ten minutes, but I'm only 25% in and all ready had enough rant worthy material I had to log on and start my review early...edit's coming soon upon finishing... **Update** NOPE...god this is so painful to finish...it's like the author had some decent ideas, but sped through, couldn't be arsed explaining them, so she gave her characters a crap ton of metaphors instead..I'm determined to finish this if it kills me. I hate having books in the did-not-finish. God that was awful...I need some oreos..and a big ass jar of nutella..and maybe a read through the bell jar to remind me decent literature did once exist.

It is hard to be original among so many vampire stories but this was a good attempt and I enjoyed reading it. It had action and suspense and a bit of romance and the writing was nice and easy to read. There were some unrealistic things, (view spoiler)[for example when Nora was almost raped by her crush she was sad and angry that her imaginary picture of her crush was ruined instead of being sad and angry about the fact that she was almost raped. Moreover, she didn't report the attempted rape. I get that this book wasn't a serious one and this scene was just a small one, not that significant, but still she should have at least reported the attack. Another thing that really surprised me was that after Nora ran away with Hunter (because of the threat they faced) she never thought about her family! She left her life, her friends, her family, everything, just like that. It never occurred to her that her family would be worried about her. More importantly, it never occurred to her that those Vassiz people might use her family as bait to get to her and, in the process, might hurt them. (hide spoiler)] Despite these things though, the story is still interesting. And these things can be easily overlooked. Characters: The characters in this book weren't that bad but they weren't one of those memorable, life-changing characters either, whom you feel a connection with. Nora was nice, yes, but she wasn't a Katniss or Hermoine. She was OK and I did like her but I didn't see any depth in her. Hunter was the same. He was an OK character and even though he should have been interesting, he didn't arouse my curiosity. But I'm not sure if this was my fault, that it was only me who couldn't connect with the characters, or if the characters were like that. Maybe some other reader out there night be able to connect with the characters... There weren't many side characters, and the ones who did appear, appeared only for a little while so nothing much can be said about them. Rafael seemed like an interesting character so I hope to see more of him in the next books. Overall: Forsaken was a really good book. More driven by the story than the characters, but good nonetheless. And I'm very eager to know what happens next!

Forsaken (The Forsaken Saga, #1) by Sophia Sharp is an interesting take on the origins of an ancient society, and perhaps, even the beginning of the universe (which isn't clear until later in the series). This book focuses on Nora, a typical high school student in the Pacific Northwest who is frequently caught by teachers daydreaming. Frustrated by Nora's inattentiveness, one of her teachers assigns Nora the task of tutoring a tall, dark, and handsome new student, Hunter, in Math after school. Frustrated by Nora's inattentiveness, one of her teachers assigns Nora the task of tutoring a tall, dark, and handsome new student, Hunter, in Math after school. As Nora gets to know Hunter (especially after he saves her from an inevitable rape at the hands of Nora's childhood crush), Hunter shares with her that he is from an ancient race known as the Vassiz who can walk in the dreamworld. It's after he takes her to the dreamworld that Nora's life goes to "hell in a hand-basket". The rest of the book is pretty much Nora and Hunter on the run from the Vassiz who are tracking them down to essentially kill them. They escape capture with the assistance of the reclusive Raphael whom they befriend and who lives beneath the ground in an intricate system of tunnels and caves. While comparisons to the Twilight series and the Vampire Diaries are inevitable, I think the Vassiz legend is unique in itself and is actually more similar to the Carpathians in Christine Feehan's "Dark" novels. Plus, I continually fell asleep reading the Twilight series because they were so repetitive with no real plot line. In comparison, I couldn't wait to start the next book in the Forsaken saga immediately after completing one book, and all stories are an interconnected fight of good versus evil, which comes to a glorious conclusion - with no loose ends - at the end of the series in Foretold. I listened to the Audible version of this story narrated by Pam Lorence. She had great intonation and pace, including differing voices for male and female characters as appropriate, as well as teenagers and more mature adults. Her narration certainly contributed to my enjoyment of this book and the entire series. In short, this is a great beginning to this wondrous fantasy/romance quartet!

I wasn’t sure where this book was going because it started right away with a nora meeting a new boy in school Hunter. He shows her an ability and then another, sharing a dream is bad and they are on the run. What hunter has done is against the rules and Nora learns he’s not just a boy with a gift. They have no time for anything other than to run and leave everything behind while they are hunted down. I am loving the book, very creative I can picture everything that’s happening perfectly. Great writing ✍️ I can’t wait for the next book. Also I would like to add that I read a lot of negative reviews in this. Not sure why someone is even comparing this to Twilight seriously. So not the same book characters have NOTHING in common. It’s a different kind of story the ONLY thing I can say is that there is another series that this same author wrote after this one book is called shattered. Sounds EXACTLY the same, same premise same characters with different names so I thought that I was weird BUT I have not gone into the next book yet of this series but I’m enjoying it. Not sure I will read the shattered series since what’s the point if they’re the same but I may check it out not sure yet

I read the whole thing because it held my interest. But, the characters are underdeveloped and the plot moves too quickly, so the decision Nora makes at the end is not believable at all. She barely knows this guy but she's willing to make a permanent decision that will change her life? She's willing to give everything up for him?! I don't buy it. The micro-details are okay; technically speaking the writing itself is solid enough and though there were some similes/metaphors that felt forced, I don't have many complaints insofar as writing. The story development, however, needs some work and that kind of skill comes with practice and knowledge. I am going to finish the series because I want to know what happens and I want to see if Sharp's skills improve. I'm not impressed, but I'm interested and sometimes that's all it takes. We'll see, Sophia Sharp...

A pretty good read A pretty good read I stumbled across this series in my search for something that looked interesting, but was also inexpensive. The summary sparked my interest and the reviews were good, so I decided to just go ahead and get it. I regret nothing. The first half of the book was slow and I couldn't really get into it. It started out as any typical supernatural/romance story. Someone moves to town, the girl notices the guy, something mythical happens, blah blah blah. awful. I wanted to give up after the first couple of chapters. A girl alone in a hallway in high school gets surrounded by a bunch of guys that are grabbing her. A guy stands up for her gets her out that awful situation and essentially save her. What does she do? She gets mad at her savior punches him and then low and behold doesn't tell anyone what happens to her. Why? Books are role model for young girls so why In the hell are there main characters that don't stand up for themselves especially awful. I wanted to give up after the first couple of chapters. Enthralling What a great YA Read. I absolutely loved the story and the main Characters. Their journey together in this first installment has me wanting more. The love Young Nora Has For her New Friend Hunter (may be more than friends) so early on is exciting and sweet. Loss and Sorrow mixed with excitement and euphoria. Recommended!

I knew early on this book was not for me. I thought I'd give it a go and hope things got better bet in fact they got worse. By worse I mean lamer and lamer. So unrealistic (and I refer to normal situations like highschool not the vampirism) and the characters were both horribly disappointing crybabies. And to top it all off, it bothered me that Nora, the human, acted unrealistically, which made her unrelateable to me. And in spite of 4 days on the run together, he only ever kissed her forehead and told her she was beautiful once. There was ZERO romance and chemistry there. Then unfortunately the ending seemed hastily pieced together.... very anti-climactic in the rapid [SPOLIER ALERT] conversion of Nora into a Vassiz (vampire).

Nora and Hunter I wasn’t able to get very far into listening to the audio version because the narrator voicing Nora as a dense 12 yo was killing me. Then I tried to read it and it still came off as Nora being too young. I had to quit when Hunter kept on repeating his explanation of the dream plane/world.

Whiplash Ugh. I had such high hopes from the preview, I enjoy paranormal fiction. But this was so fast and underdeveloped. The relationship and the unbelievable choices are based on nothing really. I'm so torn about reading the next book to see if sharp finds her pacing and develops things better, and writing it off as a waste of a few hours. Whiplash Ugh. But I just didn't really care about any of the characters or what happened to them.

He claims he cares about her and that nothing they do is dangerous, but by getting her into the dream world he breaks some ancient laws and get all his people after them, so he forces Nora to escape with him, leaving everything she knows behind, which she does without doubting it for a minute. He gets her a really pretty dress (that we never know where he gets from) and make her walk aimlessly (while trying to escape the people looking for him because he broke the law), until they meet an ancient Vassiz (vampire) that says he's going to help them, but when they are about to get caught by the Vassiz horde behind them, she decides that being a human is dangerous and asks for being converted... Of course he doesn't want to do that because she is so pure and good and she won't be able to go back to her family, but she is already unable to do that! I don't get his reasoning, they are already in danger and their only chance is to escape, so why don't give her the chance to protect herself? He already doomed her, as I see it his only chances are to convert her so she has a fighting chance or to let the enemy caught them and torture them to death. So he ends up converting her and they manage to escape, for the moment. (hide spoiler)]

To say that she is an average high school girl with a normal life is an understatement, until she is forced to help the new guy catching up with the math course. However even after spending so much time with Hunter her life is just boring and heartbreaking as any other real high school girl (with a crush on the wrong boy). Have you heard about the saying curiosity killed the cat ?! Well it does not kill Nora but gets her involve in something she could not even dream about (literally dream because she learns that dream world is exactly another dimension where other 'people' live). Honestly if i only had this book i would have spend even 9.99 for each of the other 3 books for kindle to have them to read right away, because the first two i read them in the same day.

Love the cover of this book. I am pretty sure the dress was featured in the book, or something similar, so at least it is relevant. I was really intrigued by the premise of this book. I found the start really strong and inviting but it got a tad boring for me. Very predictable, like Twilight with a little more thought into the concept of vampires. I liked to dream world but it didn't really fit the story for me. The new boy (I cannot remember his name) was a very odd character. Very similar to Edw Love the cover of this book. Very similar to Edward Cullen, moody to begin with then got really friendly then for no reason shares his deepest darkest secret. Nora left home with some one she had not known very long with out telling her friends or family, she never went back and never spared a thought to how they would feel. Very annoying and selfish. That really bugged me. And the end was interesting. Really you can become a vampire that quickly? And be okay? I will not be reading the next book in the series. 2.5 out of 5 stars
