I'm glad I found this little novel, the first in a three-book series. This is an exceptionally good police procedural involving crime on the streets of Washington, DC. The two key characters are veteran - yet rogue - homicide detectives who use rather unconventional means to reach a just end. Did I like the story? The other two books in the series, A Murder of Promise and A Murder of Justice, are already on order. I'm glad I found this little novel, the first in a three-book series. Started out so promising and kept me turning pages, but lost its steam about half-way through the book, and I found myself wanting to just skip to the end. Maybe a few too many plot lines or not enough character development to really keep the story moving.

Andrews does a great job of depicting the dynamics of a long-term professional partnership. However, the plot became overly complex and the secondary characters were not very distinctive which also caused confusion.

This book was very interesting to me. There was a lot of twists and turns throughout the whole book. It really makes the reader think about the corruption that may go on in the government and even churches. The two main characters, Frank and Jose, are not only partners, but friends, as well. This book appealed to me because it reminded me of the television show "Law and Order." The storyline was solid and it kept me engaged. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in criminal jus This book was very interesting to me. There was a lot of twists and turns throughout the whole book. Blah is all I can say for this book. By accident I picked up this book because the last name was so close to Russell Andrews name. For a murder/mystery/cop novel this book just lacked the entire spark of this genre. I suppose I could of just read the last chapter to find out the ending but I trudged through it in hopes that it would get better. In my opinion it didn't. Blah is all I can say for this book. Decent police procedural and I hope I get to read more of these worldly wise DC detectives who crack what seemed to a random drive by murder of a well loved priest. The plot is good though I tended to lose track of the various threads but perhaps it says more about me the reader! Good to read over a lazy weekend, but read it at one go if you can.
