If Book 2 Was Out, I Would Be Reading It NOW! The only thing that gave away this book was self-published was the few (and I do mean few) typos that a few more proof-reads would have caught. That said, I didn't take off any stars for it, because this is just about the best self-published novel I have read in maybe...ever. Character development was solid. Characters were likable or detestable as needed. The story was pleasantly dark. The sexual tension was high. The protagonist was bad*ss and the m If Book 2 Was Out, I Would Be Reading It NOW! Wow, I got so much more than I bargained for with this one. I really enjoyed it. Stella was a great lead character, who managed to be tough without being unfeeling. She also successfully walked that tenuous line between being pleasantly, sarcastically irreverent and being suicidally confrontational. Dark Moon Rising is a fun read and I'd be happy with it for that alone, but it's not flawless. She also successfully walked that tenuous line between being pleasantly, sarcastically irreverent and being suicidally confrontational. Dark Moon Rising is a fun read and I'd be happy with it for that alone, but it's not flawless. While I enjoyed the book and the events of the book, there didn't seem to be any overarching plot beyond, here are Stella and her friends and these are the things they do in response to a series of seemingly random stimuli. Again, it's fun but it felt anchorless. There was no single challenge Stella and her cohort needed to overcome or identifiable point in which their adventure could be seen to have been complete. I don't mean it's a cliffhanger, it's just (I think) part of one series-wide plot instead of having its own. The result is that the ending felt sudden, even if it wasn't. It's also one of those books in which every powerful paranormal male all but falls at Stella's feet, despite her attempts to dissuade them. Now, unlike a lot of other such books, there is a reason for that here and it is an integral part of the story. But it still started to feel redundant after a while. Lastly, the book could do with a little more editing. It was odd, I noticed very few misspelled or misused words. (There were some, but not a ton.) But every few pages a word just seemed to be missing. Here's an example: "Do have any idea how that fascinates us?" Obviously, that's supposed to be, Do YOU have any idea how that fascinates us? More often than not it was a 'to' or an 'a' missing though, small words that don't change the meaning or context of a sentence but cause the reader to stutter over an otherwise smooth sentence. So, in the end, if you're looking for a little fluff to pass an evening with and you're willing to overlook a few flaws, this is worth picking up.

I really loved this story. Ms. Dunson's book is very well written with a very strong character whom I cannot wait to hear more about. Stella reminds of Laurel K Hamilton's character Anita Blake and Ilona Andrew's Kate Daniels. I want to hear more about her unique version of Nulls and see how her characters will grow. If you like either of the authors that I mentioned above then I highly recommend that you read this book. Well worth the read, and very hard to put down. I really loved this story. Please don't let the cover put you off - this was a really great read, if you enjoy a kick-ass leading lady who has some dark secrets and great sexual tension this is the book for you. I must say Oscar was not my favorite and I have hopes in another direction but boy was the alter ego one scary lady. Enjoy I highly recommend this book. I don’t usually leave five star ratings but how could I not with this fantastic read! Stella Brock is a bad ass with whom you can’t help love along with her band of merry fellows. Being hunted by the boogie man has made her life hell always hiding staying out of the dark. Until she discovers things about herself she didn’t even know. With sexy shifters and elves thrown in there only kept me hooked even more to the very end. Kate Daniels meets the Elemental Assassin! Wow. Stella was raised in an orphanage and her earliest memories are of being terrorised by a dark man who steals the other children. At an early age, she is "liberated" by Mac, who raises her to be a heartless monster killer. Mac dies of cancer when she is 16 and Stella ekes by doing odd jobs. One day, she is hired by a man to obtain a supernatural cure for his sister's health condition. Her introduction to Oscar starts Stella on a path of self-discovery. Her history is not how she remembered and her friends are more than they appear. Stella is a great protagonist. Not a naive teenager, she is comfortable with who she is and can recognise her own strengths and weaknesses. The fun part is watching her foundation crumble as past "truths" are shown to be false. She is a strong person and rolls with the punches. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Dark Moon Rising is worth much more than the 99 cents I paid for it. However, if you are not patient when waiting for sequels, I advise waiting to read DMR, since book #2 is not yet available. Unfortunately, if you decide to wait, you will miss an enthralling, fresh take on urban fantasy. Stella is a hunter with a heart; she knows that all monsters are not monstrous. Stella Darkeater I loved this book! It was different enough from the usual fantasy that it kept me completely enthralled. I love a strong heroine, and Stella is just strong enough, with just enough weaknesses. I look forward to getting to know her better. Hopefully, it won't be long before the next book is published. The story should have been a 5 star rating but it had too many errors. I still recommend to fantasy lovers. Stella Darkeater I loved this book! Wow When is book 2 out? This book surprised me. I thought I was just picking up a random book to read and pass the workday. Oh no, I got sucked in and started caring for the cast. I was rooting for Stella and felt her confusion and growing pains. I need more now though.

Really like this one This is a great story with lots going on...Fae, magic, creatures, and a feisty heroine. My only criticism once again is the poor editing...wrong words, words missing, and grammatical errors. Still, despite these annoyances, I loved the story and want more.
