5/7/20: reread...three stars. Sweet details about the horse, but honestly I didn’t recall anything from my previous read. 2.5 stars Cute, but way too short. At times it became confusing because there wasn't enough detail given. It felt too much like insta-love because the story went so fast. I'll be sure to read a different, full-length book before I can decide if I like the author's style or not. 5/7/20: reread...three stars. I often don't see the point of these short stories; they are simply frustrating because they are so short! This could have a lot of potential for a novel. I know it's like a sort of small prequel to the following books in The Secret Lives of Will Tucker series, but it feels like a waste of time. There isn't enough time to develop anything, so the result is one-dimensional characters, implausible plotline and fake emotions. I will add a 0.5 to my rating since it was the very first thing I read on my new Kindle, and I loved the experience! :)

Short introductory book Historical romance well written and a good story. I enjoyed the stand alone nature of the book and believe it is just the beginning to a very good series.

The story went so quickly (only 40 pages long) that it was difficult to really get involved in it. The love relationship basically felt like instamarriage it happened so quickly. I think it would have been much better as a novella.

I liked this story much better than Flora's Wish. Not sure why, but I related more with Flora's grandmother, Millicent. I liked this story much better than Flora's Wish. Not sure why, but I related more with Flora's grandmother, Millicent.

Review also found at http://kristineandterri.blogspot.ca/2... I was looking for a short quick read when I stumbled across this free download on Amazon. I figured what the heck, I will give it a try. It is tough to say much about this story without giving anything away due to the short length. The synopsis pretty much gives it all away. So I won't talk about the plot. It was hard to relate to the characters in this story for two reasons. First, the main character was immature and spoiled, but that seemed to be due to her upper class upbringing in the mid-1800s. Secondly, the romance seemed to happen literally overnight. I guess that might have been the way things were, to an extent, in those days and in that social class, but it just didn't make for great reading. This was an alright/cute short story. I would have liked to have known what Millicent looked like or even her age. But whatever. I guess it's to be expected with a short story. I could definitely see this being something longer. So the Island they were staying on was? Spaniard Island, Spaniard's Island, or Spanish Island? At the end when Brimm asks Millicent to go on a ride with him, after receiving her wedding present....what exactly did she mean when she said, "Quite the contrary, husband." This was a really cute novella and I would have given it a 5 star if it had been longer!!! I loved the romance and seeing how Miss Merriweather met the love of her life. And having read the other books in this series, it was great. I think it would be great to read this little novella first and then read the other novel's in the Will Tucker series. Miss Merriweather's Marriage is the VERY short short story of Flora Brimm's grandmother, who is such a great character in Flora's Wish. Having loved the dear old woman in the novel, it was fun to see how she came to be married, but the story's excessive brevity was a disappointment, as there was so little time to showcase Y'Barbo's humor and quirky characters. I really enjoyed this short story. Sometimes historical romance can be a bit cheesy (in my opinion), but I found this one to not be the case at all. I don't normally read historical fiction, but this one was recommended to me (thanks Jan!) and I decided to give it a try. There are a couple more books in this series and I'm going to be on the look-out for them. I really enjoyed this short story. A look into the life of a southern belle who is of marriage age. Her father is seeking a husband for her but she's not at all happy about that. Then by pure luck, one of her suitors, approved by her father, approaches her and love blooms. A short story that takes us back in time (1844) so we can see the social rituals of the time up close. I am normally not a fan of regency books. But this was a very good book. I enjoyed it thoroughly! I might even read the rest of this series! I love that the female lead, Miss Merriweather, was such a free spirit, she followed her heart in a time when this was most definitely not allowed.

While some of these novella's give me an opportunity to read from a new author; they may also back-fire a bit; this read was just not very striking or interesting. I probably won't venture any further with this author. A good plot will always be more important to me than a romance.
