This was a good story, I really enjoyed it. I loved the character, Marty, that Boggs created and how she came to be in the war. Very realistic. I also loved the history lesson, of King's Mountain that was included as it didn't feel like a history lesson. This is a new author for me. I'll be reading more of his books. Another excellent read by Johnny D. Boggs. This book kept my attention through out the entire story and left me in tears during the last three chapters. Yes some parts are fiction in the story but you can still feel the history and emotions that people had suffered during the American Revolution. The fact that a woman in the 1700's and fight along side men at their own pace impressed my feminist side immensely. I did learn some new interesting words and other meanings to words that I know. Such as a castrated Rooster is called a Capon. The word "faggot" can also mean a bushel of sticks and twigs used for kindling. Gammon is a cut of quick-cured pork, YUCK! And gasconade may indicate bravado. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
