For Rhys McGowan, his nightmare began when he woke up, naked and hung-over, next to his bandmate’s little sister. Unable to remember a thing from the previous night, he only makes matters worse by lying to Allison about not being interested in her. The truth is he’s spent the last year to ignore his body’s reaction whenever Allison is around. His resolve is tested when Allison comes on tour with Runaway Train, as both Jake and Abby’s nanny and to fulfill her fashion design internship. The more time he spends with her in the close quarters of the bus, the harder it is for him to resist. Will Rhys realize that having a relationship with Allison is worth fighting for even if it means that he has to fight his best friend for a chance?

Rhys goes from being kind and caring to a complete jerk just to make sure Allison keeps her distance. Rhys spent a good portion of the book denying his feelings and not until he becomes jealous is he forced to confront his feelings towards Allison. Unfortunately, by the time Rhys comes to terms with his feelings I wasn't rooting for them to be a couple. I had hope Allison would give the "new" guy a chance but the heart wants what the heart wants. Anyway, on to the cover, I love this cover....sexy rocker with tats. Well done. Book 2 also has a smokin' hot cover. :) SERIES: Novella: (#2.5)

3.5 Draining as Hell Stars I liked this book for the most part but I felt like it sucked the life right out of me half the time. Watching Rhys push Allison away over and over, trying to convince the both of them that "it's for her own good" really started to work my last damn nerve. I liked both MCs, though, and Katie Ashley can usually be counted on for a fun read. Because, like most things in my life, I started this series out of order, I'm now onto AJ and Mia' s book. However I do enjoy the last half of this book where Rhys and Allison have to admit their feeling toward each other. It makes me smile. So I round up my rating to 3 stars. 3 stars

Thank you!!* Strings of the Heart tells the story of Allie and Rhys. Allie has been in love with Rhys since she was 13 but he has only seen her as his best friend/bandmate's kid sister. This all changes when she turns 16 and the two share their first kiss which causes Allie to reaffirm her belief that Rhys is the man for her; and Rhys to finally begin to notice Allie but not take action on it due to her young age and naivety. Years later, after after a failed relationship, Allie is an aspiring fashion designer and takes on a baby sitting gig for brother, Jake, and his wife, Abby, while also working an internship with the band's stylist. She once again encounters Rhys and the two grow closer and end up drunkenly having an one night stand. Allie thinks this has finally sealed the deal with her and Rhys only...it leaves to her mere heartbreak. Licking her wounds and battling Rhys' rejection, will she have what it takes to strum the strings of his jaded heart and fulfill her dreams of working in the fashion world? And Rhys. Will he let go of own wounds and risk his own longtime relationship with one of the only "real family" he's ever had and give into the undeniable chemistry with the girl who gives him everything? Read and you will find out! My thoughts: A decent read, my main problems with this book were the pacing and the "clichéness" of the plot. I mean, aside from the story dragging for me, I just felt that I've seen plots over and over where the girl falls for her brother's best friend but the guy will not act on it due to respect for his friend (the girl's brother) so he battles with it and fights it off leading to a whole bunch of drama. The only difference is, is that for this story, the guy is a famous musician. Big difference, right? I don't know guys, this is an okay read that had potential but I just was hoping that it would somehow go in a different direction perhaps. It just did not measure up to par of what I had anticipated. Still a decent read though and doesn't deter me from wanting to read Brayden and Lily's story in book 4!! I hope Eli's story is book 5!! Pretty please?!

**2.5 stars** I was anticipating this book because out of all the band members I couldn't wait for Rhys' story. It totally guts me that I to give this two stars. Rhys' character really disappointed me and I thought Allison was a bit of pushover, she accepted too much crap from him, and that was when the stars started falling for me! Personally I would have loved to see more happening with Rhys' family with regards to stuff getting resolved for him and his sister. Instead this book was wasted on the following: 1. Too much time spent in the past and not the present. The three weeks in Savannah was gone into in such detail and the time in the present was rushed, especially when it came to Rhys discovering how he truly felt. And don't even get me started on that issue! After all the begging and pleading to come to his senses from a girl he was supposedly in love with, he didn't take her advice - no - but rather took advice from a five minute conversation with some random stripper. 2. The stupid back and forth dance when we finally got out of the past recollections - which was around 52% btw - and then this back forth emotional dance that Rhys did lasted till about 80% into the book! that's when the stripper came in! 3. I thought Jake ridiculously overprotective to the point of stupidity where his behaviour seemed irrational! You would swear Allison was a five year old with the way he acted instead of twenty one. Helll she had more mature bones in her body than he did! Come to think of it she had more mature bones in her body than Rhys as well. When they finally got together, it was rushed, it felt unfinished and it left gaping questions about Rhys' parents and his sister. Really disappointed with this one cause I thought it was going to be my favourite out of the whole series. Instead I felt like Rhys didn't deserve Allison and I was wholeheartedly routing for her and that Eli dude! The entire pacing of the story was off... To much time spent on the past rather than the present being interspersed with bits of the past, them getting together at a decent way through the book and then spending time together a couple. Letting the reader see them together a couple and having Rhys redeem himself by the actions that Allison wanted him to make. Instead this was glossed over with a TWO MONTHS LATER...

One night four years ago he felt a jolt, a shot straight through his heart, a completely foreign feeling that man like Rhys couldn't define. Growing up in high society in the south, attending law school and finally chasing his dream to become a rock star ensured that Rhys was never going to live up to his parent's expectations. But in reality, no one really could. Never knowing the real meaning of family or feeling loved until he found his brothers, Rhys can't accept the new feelings he's discovered for the girl that he knows is off limits. Allison fell in love with the boy that saved her all those years ago, the only problem was that she was just thirteen and he was one of her brother's best friends. When she turned sixteen she wanted one thing, a simple kiss. A kiss with a man that her young heart had grown to love. With that kiss, Allison knew that no matter where life took them, eventually things would align and Rhys would finally see her for more than just the kid sister of Jake Slater, she would one day be more than Allie-Bean. When Allison finds herself away at college and homesick, Rhys stops in while home from touring to check in on her. But soon, his checking in has less to do with Jake's request and more to do with the feelings that she evokes in him. For a few weeks they spend their days and nights together growing closer until it all comes to a head and instead of Rhys admitting his feelings he pushes her away. Now these two are stuck on tour together as she takes on an internship and nanny job for Abby and Jake, tension spills over as they both try to fight their feelings while not letting anyone know what happened all those months ago. But for Allison, only so much heartbreak can be bestowed upon her before she breaks completely. Rhys has to face his feelings the girl that he used to see as just a kid, the girl that has turned into a woman that he can't get out of his head. I have loved every installment of The Runaway Train Series and when I saw the hint that Rhys story would be with Jake's baby sister I was so excited. I love the romances where the girl falls for her brother's friend, but even more than that - I love a second chance romance. And Rhys sure did need that second chance. Katie Ashley has created a fantastic rock start series where the focus is on the characters and not on the groupies and outside drama that most rock star books draw into their stories. Sure, that angst adds to those stories, but it can also bury the characters during the process. Both Allison and Rhys were lovable. Rhys went through his entire life not feeling love or really understanding that someone would actually give their love to him. His life wasn't one of those hard-knocks style upbringings, but the money was no substitute for the nurturing he never got. For Allison, she has her family that always showed her love and that compassion spilled over to Rhys. The only thing that kept this from being a full five star read for me was the ending. Not so much the story of the end, but how Rhys went from zero to sixty in within such a short period of time. I don't quite know what exactly I wanted to have happen, or if I have just become an angst-whore these days... Overall this was such a sweet romance read and pure Katie Ashley. Her books have always been the kind of books that make your heart swell.

Differently from his bandmates Rhys has a prelaw bachelor degree and comes from old money. His great great grandfather was a Scott lord and his parents are two rich bastards. He grew up in a posh rich house but without love. His parents never cared for him or his ill sister. They also dishonored him after he left law school to play in a rockband. But his grandfather's will changed a bit the dynamics in his family and brought the money back to Rhys. I loved him a lot, he's alpha, billionaire, famous and with a rocker charm and sexiness...who speaks posh and wears suits and smokings when he's in his family events and talks dirty and wears like a rocker when he leaves them. I liked these two sides of Rhys. I loved Allison Slater too, she's the half little sister of Jake the leader singer of the band. She's 20 years old, studies fashion design in Savannah, the home city of Rhys. She's beautiful and has an innocent look, but she's a volcano in eruption. She has been secretly in love with one of her brothers bandmates since she was 13 years old. She asked him to kiss her during the celebration of her sweet sixteen and now that the fate brought them together in Savannah, she thinks might be the chance for her to make him see her as a woman and not as a little kid anymore. I don't want to spoil much....but I loved their love story a lot! It was pretty hot!! This can be read as a stand alone too, since both H/h are only secondary characters in the previous books with small parts. I have a thing for stories of "falling in love with the little sister or the big brother of a friend"... so I loved the plot and it's development a lot. I totally recommend it!

Boy was I wrong. Not only doesn't the author deliver but she creates yet another weak female character. I could have put aside the misunderstandings or the weak plot that just didn't make sense. I could also have forgiven then fact that her heroes sounded more feminine than male but what I couldn't put aside was the repetitive weak spineless heroines. I hate that in a book. That is one of the reasons that some books fail miserable. The hero in this one hurts the heroines repetitively and after some events he apologizes and the heroine takes him back and forgives him all at once. No act to prove that the hero is indeed sorry for his action, no change whatsoever to justify such a quick forgiveness. Next the heroine asks to take it slow and the hero says that he agrees and the very next paragraph (not even the next page!!) he's rushing and yet again the heroine is okay with it. Grow a bloody spine!!! Another issue was that most of the dialogue felt like a parent telling its child what is right and what is wrong and what the child should do. My next thought was that this is the way a teacher would talk to child. And then at the end of the book I read the aythor's biography and hear hear; she was a teacher for over 10 years. Obviously something that transferred into her writing. I'm more than disappointed with this author. I could have dealt with a lot but weak, spinless characters are ont one of the things I can tolerate. I wouldn't recommend this boy or series unless this kind of characters is your thing.

And I was definitely not disappointed with his and Allison's story! Though the story of a girl falling for her brother's friend is not a new one, the execution of this story was beautiful. Rhys and Allison have history. History beyond her just being Jake's little sister. As bass player for Runaway Train, Rhys could have any woman he wants.... and Allison has been on his mind for years. Rhys and Allison together are just wonderful. There has been that spark of attraction between them since her 16th birthday, but Allison's feelings go back even further than that. Katie Ashley always writes strong women, but took it to another level with Allison. She has been an amazingly strong woman from since she was a teenager, and just grows stronger as the years pass. Strings of the Heart sure did tug on the heartstrings. There was more than one time while reading that I may or may not have shed a tear or two. At times I wanted to slap the crap out of Rhys for toying with Allison's heart the way he does. I can understand his hesitance at forming a relationship, but at the same time I was calling bulls&*t at his reasons. I wanted to love him and hate him all at the same time. I just adored Allison. She knows what she wants and goes for it. And when things go awry with Rhys, my heart shattered along with hers. "Okay then, I'll put it all behind me. We'll go on like this never happened. If that's what you think is best." "I'm sorry, but I really do. It'll be fine in the end, you'll see. We'll be able to be friends just like nothing happened." She gave me a quick jerk of her head. "I'll just try not to think each and every time I see you that you're the man who didn't just break my heart-you shattered it." I really loved that we got more of the Runaway Train boys, as well as the Jacob's Ladder boys. It has been great to see them all grow up and become loving family men. Though the thing that irked me - Jake. Ugh, he was such a hypocrite when it came to Allison!! He had been such a man whore for so long, but he ball-busted any man who even looked at his sister. And the way he acted towards Rhys.... grrrr!! I loved that all the other RT ladies and his band mates put him in his place!! OK, rant over! So, can Allison and Rhys overcome what is keeping them apart, or can they make a go of things and get their HEA? Nope, you are going to have to read for yourself! I adore Katie Ashley's writing, and have read every word she has written so far. I love my down and dirty rockers, but I love seeing them knocked for six when they meet the woman meant for them.

But man, when things started going wrong, they went really wrong. Allison has loved Rhys McGowan since she was 13 years old. As one of her brother’s best friends, Rhys was around a lot, though Allison knew he would never notice her as anything other than Jake’s baby sister. When she’s all grown up and Rhys starts hanging out with her in Savannah, she begins to hope that he is finally seeing her for herself rather than as Jake’s sister. Rhys is blindsided by his feelings for Allison, his best friend’s sister. The one girl in his life who is supposed to be off limits, because Jake would flip if he learned what Rhys thought of his sister. In trying to avoid Jake’s wrath, he ends up hurting Allison and himself worse than he could have imagined. And now she’s on tour with the band and he is faced with the pain he caused her on a daily basis. These two were a lot of fun to watch while they were in Savannah. Allison knew Rhys was the man she wanted in her life, but convincing him that he was right for her was certainly a challenge. Watching them circle each other once on tour together was painful as Rhys tried to distance himself from Allison and Allison tried to ignore Rhys’s comments. But for all the hurt they were each feeling, I was caught giggling several times at how it seemed everyone except Jake could see Allison and Rhys circling each other. References to Rhys’s parents had been made in other Runaway Train books, but it wasn’t until this one that we see exactly what everyone means when they talk about them. And it was not difficult to be appalled by them, for all their high society class, behind closed doors they were less than sparkling. We also briefly meet Rhys’s sister and learn exactly why he is so protective of her. The connection between them was the perfect evidence for Allison to use later when convincing Rhys that he was worth it. As the final Runaway Train boy to fall, Rhys needed a special woman to catch his attention. But what he didn’t anticipate was it happening so quickly, or who it would be that caught his eye. This was the perfect story for both Allison and Rhys. The alternating POV gave readers great insight into the thoughts, hopes, and hurts of each as the scene warranted without keeping too many secrets from us as readers. Now that all 4 members of the band have met their matches, the only thing I’m waiting for in Runaway Train news is the backstory that is coming in Melody of the Heart (Brayden and Lily’s story). This review will be posted at Reviews by Tammy and Kim.

Well, Katie Ashley has done it again! I just love this series. I wish I could be part of the Runaway Train family! I was laughing so hard at the beginning of this book, with Rhys waking up with his “morning boner” and little Bella’s reaction after barging in on him…..it basically went like this: “Do you have a booboo on your peepee? Want Mommy to come kiss it and make it better?” And then when AJ shows up, she asks, “Why don’t you kiss it and make it better Daddy? And then her running down the hall to her mother screaming, “Mommy, what’s a mowning wood?” Hahahahaha! That was great! There was more to it, and I don’t usually throw quotes into my reviews, but I just loved this part…it was hysterical! I just loved Rhys….he was a gentleman at heart and I understood every single action he made. He really had Allison’s best interests at heart, even though I wanted to shake him and make him see the light! His love for his sister, Ellie, showed that he was a great man who was capable of love even if he didn’t think so. Allison grew into a strong woman, knowing what was in her heart, and not afraid to talk about it….loved that! Oh, and Allison performing “Say Something” at the piano while Rhys was watching her made my heart break…..the song was so fitting for their relationship…..I was crying like a baby! And thank the Lord that Katie Ashley posted an Epilogue to this book….I NEEDED THAT! Loved, loved, loved it! I think I would have felt like I was left hanging if I didn’t get that Epilogue! This series is just so great….so what’s next? Melody of the Heart!! Brayden and Lily’s story! We haven’t really seen or heard much about them in the series so I can’t wait. I am very curious to read their story based on the synopsis and excerpt. Together since they were 15 years old? Wow! Keep them coming Katie! P.S. I really hope you will give us Eli’s story soon too. I kinda felt bad for him!!

I was given a ARC in exchange for my honest review. Where do I start? Katie has done it yet again. I am left speechless. I was probably the most excited for Allison and Rhy's story and Katie did NOT disappoint. Allison has been in love with Rhy's since she was 13. Fast forward to her sweet 16 and all she wants is one REAL kiss from Rhy's. And he hesitantly obliges and even he was shaken from that one kiss. But nothing can ever become of the two. Fast forward into time and we get to see what happened a few years before present day and why their is so much tension between the two. For a few weeks they were inseparable and had got real close. One thing leads to another and they wake up the next day and Rhy's instantly regrets what he has done to his best friends baby sister. Allison is heart broken, she loves him and wishes he would love her back. The part ways and then we are thrown into future times. They struggle to be around each other and remain friends. Rhy's has a hard time letting his feelings for Allison show and he hates the thought of anyone else having her. But can he ever commit and be what Allison needs? you will have to read to find out. Trust me, it's the best of the series and I was blown away. Not only do we get the rest of the Runaway Train we all love, we get more Jacob's Ladder and many, many, many HILARIOUS conversations, situations and so much more. It was simply amazing and I could NOT put it down once I started. I am looking forward to the next installment and truly hope for another Rhy's and Allison book * hint hint * and to read anything Katie writes in the future. She has a fan for life in me. ★★★★★ "To put it mildly, she was the forbidden fruit I had dared to taste." SQUEEEE! I adored this book! Finally, we have Rhys's story. My life feels a tad bit more complete. There's something ridiculously sexy about a man who oozes charm and confidence, and one possessing a wicked sense of humor and moves that will make a nun rethink her profession. Now, we have our smart and sexy-as-sin bass player, Rhys McGowan- irresistible to women, envied by men. Rhys is undeniably the most complex and enigmatic member of Runaway Train. The author intricately reveals layer by layer allowing the reader to explore every facet of Rhys's psyche. Regardless of her age, Allison's character is very likable. Her love for Rhys is undeniable and intense, not desperate or cliche. To love like that is truly remarkable. As always, the author delivered panty-dropping passion that will permanently mark your memory. I will never again look at tequila the same. I can't think of a better name for this book hence the pulling of my very own heartstrings. This book is much more than a romance novel- it's complexity is powerful and addicting. Katie Ashley beautifully paints a story of a forbidden love, a love painfully and wonderfully familiar, pushing the limits and contradicting reality. ➔ http://amzn.to/1qYmYrp Brandi's Bookshelf: http://on.fb.me/1oWG1jU

Loved Rhys and Allison together but it was a tough read at times. The fact that their three week flirty courtship was sweet, fun, touching and spicy was great BUT... It was difficult knowing that Allison's heart would be crushed in the near future. And that heartbreak that was bound to come was devastating when it happened. You're supposed to be the young sweetheart of the bunch, not breaking the heart of your BFF's little sister, the woman you love!! Loved Abby's brother, Eli, more than peanut butter and chocolate. He was so adorable, romantic, good-natured and an all-around fun guy to be around. I cannot wait for him to get his own book! Loved getting so much of the Runaway Train family too! The interactions between the bandmates and their families are the best parts of the books. More Jake Slater is ALWAYS a good thing!! So excited they got the happily ever after they deserved! Gosh darn, I LOVE rockstar romance HEAs!! I admit, I'm a little nervous to read Brayden's book. Obviously, we know how things turn out but I'm not looking forward to reading about his prior encounters while he and Lily were on their break. I definitely have it on my to-read list though! If you're a fan of the Runaway Train books then I can guarantee you don't want to miss this one! Rhys and Allison's story was definitely worth the tears I shed while reading it.

Katie Ashley once again delivers another enjoyable addition to her Runaway Train series. It may feel like an overplayed plot at times but Ashley’s characters always seem to be just what I like, and they keep me coming back for more. And life for Runaway Train’s rich playboy begins to change. I really enjoyed getting the before and after of the developing romance between Allie and Rhys. Seeing how and what happened in both their lives to bring them to present time added to the development in their story. And it's always an added bonus to get updates and new interaction with the other band members and their families as well. Quick, easy and downright fun read!

I love Katie Ashley's writing style. It's smooth and effortless. This is the third book in the series, so of course I started with it. I know, I'm backwards and egotistical. The reason I started with this book was because the main female's name is Allison. I'm here to tell you, though, that I wasn't lost at all. I will definitely go back and read the other two books in the series because I fell in love with the characters. I adored the slow build at the beginning between Allison and Rhys. I'm a South Carolina girl and love how she portrays us southern folk. If you're looking for sweet with steam mixed in, Strings of the Heart is for you.

NOT THE BEST IN THIS SERIES Allison Slater is the sister of Jake member of Runaway Train. Allison has been in love with Rhys McGowan bassist in the group since she was fifteen. I'm not sure I will carry on with this series. The first book remains my favourite.
