The Secret is the continuation of Lark's Quest. Lark has found the lost prince and is escorting him back to the capital. But they both have secrets they're keeping that just might cause more trouble than it's worth. Plus with Oxen and Mouse hot on their tails, it might just be a moot point anyway. Just as short and intriguing as the first book, The Search introduces more characters and develops the world very nicely. Raven and Lark show new sides of themselves, and the secondary characters flesh out into something more real. And when all those secrets come out... oh boy, look out! So glad I have the next one waiting for me. (As a note, I plan on reviewing the trilogy in a bit more detail when I'm finished, as I think it will be easier that way. If you want to know more, check out my review for the last book.) [I received this book for free through First Reads and was not required to write a positive or any other type of review. The Secret wasn't quite as good as The Quest in my opinion. The story ventured from the Lark/Raven perspective that was the set up of the first book, so now the story is following four characters instead of just the two. I think it might have been a bit stronger if it had stuck to Raven and Lark, but it was a break that was needed to set up more exposition. So, I can forgive it that. You get to learn more about the royal family and the Ariane in this novella, which was interesting. Nearly the ent The Secret wasn't quite as good as The Quest in my opinion. You get to learn more about the royal family and the Ariane in this novella, which was interesting. Nearly the entire book was focused on politics: between the kingdom and the Var, between Raven and the people, and between Lark and the other Ariane. I was surprised by what Raven ended up deciding, although I suppose I really shouldn't have been surprised. It makes sense. I hate the cliffhanger that it ended on, though! And now, I'm starting on the third one...after which I'll have to wait for the second half of the series to be published.

A continuation of Lark's Quest. Lark has found Prince Raven and brought him back hoping he will take the throne, but someone doesn't want him there...... Loved the emotions of the characters. Well written and clean. I appreciated the references to the peasant god (very similar to Christ). This book does leave you hanging and ready to read book #3. Which I have started. I really liked these books, actually lent them to a neighbor kid and she really enjoyed them as well. I am a fan of really long books, so obviously I wish they were a little bit longer but that is my only negative. I have always been a fan of the dark, grouchy guy with secrets who is really an awesome guy underneath it all. I would recommend this book. (and I did on my Facebook page)

I have to admit when I first got these books I wasn't to sure if I would like them. I was wrong these are some of the best books I've read this year. They aren't that long so it takes no time to read one. Very enjoyable books. I am looking forward to getting the next one in the series. Highly recommended. This book was won as part of a goodreads first reads giveaway. Although slow to start the second installment in this series of books was just as good as the first. Barbara Cool Lee writes in such a style that makes the books an easy, quick read that keeps you wanting more.

So, Raven doesn't want to become king and it's a long journey back. Lark tries to persuade him. Already getting a funny feeling about Willow. Kept waiting for Ox and Mouse to pop-up, but they're not big in this story. Nice integration of the Var "pirates" and the knowledge of the silk worms.
