It is a fine piece of adventure fantasy with some good lessons on sibling warfare thrown in. EL, MS - ADVISABLE http://kissthebook.blogspot.com/2007/...

Title : The Hour of The Cobra Author : Maya Williams Rate : 4.5 Stars This was the first time I read Maya William's book and I was expecting to by bored out of my mind and not complain because my dad got this for me on his way back from work because Historicals are not my cup of tea. Or so I thought. The story started off with Xanthe Alexander who was sulking over losing a Contest to her brother and twin Xavier Alexander. I think those of us with siblings can understand the sibling rivalry Title : The Hour of The Cobra Author : Maya Williams Rate : 4.5 Stars This was the first time I read Maya William's book and I was expecting to by bored out of my mind and not complain because my dad got this for me on his way back from work because Historicals are not my cup of tea. Or so I thought. The story started off with Xanthe Alexander who was sulking over losing a Contest to her brother and twin Xavier Alexander. I think those of us with siblings can understand the sibling rivalry here where we all would pull the others leg to get to the top. I find these two quite witty and really great characters and I also liked the fact that Ms Williams used African Americans in her tale. Xanthe and Xavier have a knack for getting in trouble and when ot comes to showing the other off, they go on full force. There mission along with their friends was to keep it discreet and not draw attention. However, Xanthe had other plans. During her drop offs, Xanthe comes face to face with Cleopatra (view spoiler)[Cleopatra thought Xanthe was Isis the goddess(view spoiler)[ and befriends the future queen and goes to visit Cleopatra everytime Xanthe would have to go make a delivery back to her own time. Xavier Alexander is a funny, smartass, outgoing black belt who can be beat gladiators in battle. This guy with his charasmatic personality tends to make his sisters friends his own which gets on her nerves. The twins speak in a code which sounds simple enough but to them its a whole different meaning. Now, lets go to the second pair of siblings and time travellers with the Alexanders. Rowan and Nina Popelwell aged fourteen and twelve respectively. Rowan is a cute, smart and dorky guy who is a video games geek which might I add will help him a lot. Rowan would seem like a shy and dorky little nerd but you see this boy's thinking and leadership is an important asset to the gang so dont you dare underestimate him. Nina the youngest of the group and music prodigy who had stopped playing music after her mother died with three cut CDs. This little girl is a hyoeractive ball of energy. She is very resourceful and her music can even tame the wildest of beasts. Her brains and quick thinking had gotten them out of some tight spots so dont go doubting this little girl either. Those were just the characters but the plot was wonderful with the perfect combination of humor, sibling rivalry, friendship, sibling bonding and of course a smalldrop of romance. The mix of modern times and history is amazing and how the charcters interact with the famous leaders like Cleopatra and Julius Caesar is something that Im in awe of. Im sorry I cant tell you much about the plot as i know I will end up spoiling it for you guys which I am sure you guys dont want. The only downside in this was the timeline thing because that was really cknfusing and you would have to turn the pages back and see it again and again. So yeah, that is about it. Do read it though, it will be worth it (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

Picking up not long after she left off in The Golden Hour, Williams' new adventure covers much more territory than the first. Xanthe Alexander, while enjoying a short reprieve from her twin brother Xavier, is overly busy beating herself up. While out on the porch studying math to distract herself, she happens to notice something in the pond. Much to her shock, she realizes it's her best friend Rowan. As it turns out, she, Rowan and Nina have been called back to Owatannauk, Maine to assist in a special project: collecting historical items for customers of the curio shop. After a brief run-through of Egyptian history, the trio are costumed and sent on their way. Xanthe, pleased to finally have something her brother does not, has lost sight of the mission almost before it's begun. When Xavier later shows up in Alexandria, she loses it completely. Though the children have been forewarned not to interact with anyone important, when Xanthe accidentally runs into Cleopatra while exiting an alleviator in a Temple of Isis, she finds it all too easy to let the girl believe she is the godess she's come to worship. In secret, she begins making trips to see the princess as she ages, following her through history. Moody and distracted during the day, it doesn't take long for the others to figure out something's up. She feeds Rowan a lie to pass on to the others, but Xavier knows her better than that, and follows her on her next visit. Furious as she is at the discovery, it turns out to be the least of their troubles, as they get stuck overnight in the wrong year, and return to Owatannauk only to find they've created an alternate branch of the universe and are stuck out of time. With the help of the alternates in the new Owatanauk, and Rowan and Nina, Xanthe and Xavier, or Isis and Osiris, scheme up an incredible plot to return history to its correct path, which is their only chance to undo the damage, and return to their own time. A much heavier read than the first of the series, The Hour of the Cobra covers far more territory than The Golden Hour, but is equally enjoyable. I'd recommend reading them in order, only because most of the mystery of Owatannauk is told in the first book, though there is a brief summarization for the reader at the beginning of this story. A tale of jealousy, friendship, teamwork and faith, The Hour of the Cobra is well worth a look.

After their last adventure the kids need to go on a special mission to prove themselves worthy of "frequent flyer" status. One rule: Don't interfre in the lives of Famos people. The rule is quickly broken when Xanthe strikes up a Friendship with none other than Cleopatra herself. This Book was very Exciting. Lots of action with very indepth character development and a very well researched plot make for a time travel aventure that is more exciting than the first. This time travel story is the sequel to The Golden Hour but I understood it even though I hadn't read the first book. This story takes us to ancient Egypt in a way that stretches credulity. Adventures and enlightenment ensue and all is tied up neatly at the end in order to have more adventures by the main characters. A slight step above Magic Treehouse. This is a good book. I personally really like historical fiction, especially ones where people from "our time" travel back in time. I learned a lot of stuff about anchient Egypt and Cleopatra than I ever have! I'm usually not that much into anchient Egyption stuff, but I liked this book! This is a good book. A great sequel to the original, I like how the author keeps the characters consistent ... but then has a different lead character in this story. A very enjoyable story as the twins take the lead this time.

Ah, adventures in ancient Eygpt. I love time traveling kids, and I very much like Williams' kids, for their strengths and their weaknesses. And the sisters! And the strange little town in Maine. I'm really looking forward to the third installment. Library copy Ah, adventures in ancient Eygpt. This book was not as good as the first book. Maybe it was because it was from a different point of view but it didn't make me as excited as when I was reading The Golden Hour. It was still a good read though. This book was not as good as the first book. OK, it's my fault. I didn't realize that this is a sequel. I didn't understand this book that much. I mean, why this character thinks like this and that. Why is he reacting like this and that. Bummer. OK, it's my fault. I didn't realize that this is a sequel. I didn't understand this book that much. I mean, why this character thinks like this and that. Time travel to Ancient Egypt by four kids. Another fun book to read aloud, although it got a bit cumbersome in places and it was easy to get confused as to what year they were in as they went back and forth a lot. Kind of confusion-heavy.

Intriguing thus far. Couldn't find the first one but they explain things just enough to understand the premise without giving away what happened in the first in the series. Intriguing thus far.
