I have ever watched the film also and i deals with my heroine on it. I never be sacrificed with only one sight. In this 5cm novel describes the friendship of five human children named Arial, Riani, Zafran, Ian, and Genta. 5 person with 5 different personalities. The writer put each character on the one strong personality. Where they have their own obsessions and dreams. These five friends have been friends for seven years. One time they are bored with the activities they always do together. An idea for not communicating with each other and meeting each other for three months. The idea was proposed and all of them agreed. During the three months of separation, many things happened that made their hearts richer than before. The meeting after three months full of longing finally happened and celebrated with a wonderful trip.Along the way they discovered the true meaning of humanity. The journey full of meaning and value. All of them revealed in a trip 'reunion' they climbed the highest mountain on the island of Java, Mahameru. On the way to Mahameru they experienced many events that they rarely saw in the city. In the climb they also get a lot of lessons for not giving up easily. Completing with the character name arial having a hypothermia. All of the member of the trip ever felt a doubt to continue the trip. But the problem was vanished because of their togetherness. The reader also fell in high spirit when 5 members on the 17th of August they celebrated Independence Day on the highest land in Java. However, before reaching the top, they had to climb the ocean of dust and rocks. Ian and other members had to strugle on it. Finally they made it. very touchy. While the word '5 cm' means that we put our dream 5 cm in front of our forehead, don't just stick, let the dream hang, float 5 centimeters in front of your forehead, so the dream will never escape from your eyes. As close as your dream as well as it comes true. The thing i like on this book are the interesting story, using language that is easy to understand, and the story line is not boring so the reader wants to read this book until the last page. The moral message delivered is so good that it motivates readers to be able to pursue their dreams and make them come true. Furthermore, i also can imagine the beutiful view that i want to discover. There are also lots of typical youth dialogues, but don't forget to add a touch of humor. Poorly, there are also deficiencies in this novel. That is, too many song lyrics, which in my opinion, are very disturbing. There fore, it seems not to be useful to entertain the readers enough. Then,This novel iseems give the limit up to its target readers only for Indonesians. therefore, maybe foreign people will not be familiar with this story line. I suggest if there is a conflict that is more draining the reader's mind before leaving for train to Malang. for example like they did not go up the mountain for some reason or were given a surprise there was one of the member of them did not come along and it was already inside the train. I will give the good suprise for the readers and it will further make the reader more enthusiastic compared to displaying the ian almost get missed catch the train.

How this book became best seller is beyond me. The narration is boring, repetitive, and too cliche. No symbolism, imagery and other literary devices are used by the author. But the worst part is the high number of typos in this book. Where was the editor?! It makes you think, if this book is best seller, what kind of youths with their stupid view of the ideal world (make no mistake, this book is a reflection of the wants of the average Indonesian youth) and their lack of literary appreciation will bring this country out of its backside? There are some good themes about friendship, dreams, and attempts to glorify nationalism. But the bottom line is, if this is the literary marvel Indonesia has to offer today, then the our modern culture is in a sad, sad state.

For me, its more like a comedy book than a proper fiction.

i'm not even halfway through this but. wow. i just had to write a review immediately. this book isn't good at all. very evident that a man wrote this. it makes me so uncomfortable on the first chapters. i really don't get how this became a forking bestseller. like, uh, what? mega bestseller where?! and then the typing. gosh, it's the worst. i don't even read it anymore i just skim it. there's too much quotes and song lyrics that i don't give a fork about. this book is a torture. am i in the bad i'm not even halfway through this but. wow. i just had to write a review immediately. this book isn't good at all. very evident that a man wrote this. it makes me so uncomfortable on the first chapters. i really don't get how this became a forking bestseller. like, uh, what? mega bestseller where?! and then the typing. gosh, it's the worst. i don't even read it anymore i just skim it. there's too much quotes and song lyrics that i don't give a fork about. this book is a torture. am i in the bad place? who knows. whatever. i'd probably give my final thoughts after i actually finish reading this book. yikes. this book gets only one star from someone that gives almost everything else at least three (3) stars. update: giving this an extra star because it was decent after they started to climb mahameru lol but i still don't care about any of them so

Apart from the interesting storyline that flows naturally, other things that I appreciate about this book is the pieces of kinda cool songs--I hated some of them, by the way--, the dialogues of films I've never heard of, the thought of philosophers that that got interpreted and discussed by this small circle of friend, as well as I find the dynamic of each person in this circle is fine. As a sucker of coming-of-age stories, I admit this book carries the theme of "heartwarming, we're-edgy-but-we'd-like-people-to-think-we-are-actually-dumbasses-friendship" nicely. No wonder this book got a big ass 'Mega Best Seller' on the cover. But there are some things that make me uncomfortable. We know that Donny Dirghantoro, is in fact, a man. I think the way he characterized Arinda and Riani is too much, by making them both seem pretty, perfect, got the inner beauty and all, whites-stupid-beauty-standard-trademark, chatty and attentive, AND /clears throat/ got a nice, sensual body, said in Zafran's mind. Way too perfect, eh? and pretty much unreal, I don't tolerate sexualizing women (and men), even in a fiction when they are not a living person walking on this earth. If some of the characters are described having perfect personality and intelligence and thoughts, then there's Ian, a character in the circle that said having a full figured body, being a jokester and also the one being joked. I have to say I don't find it amusing nor funny, despite them being a decade friends. But after all, the storyline and the philosophy of 5 cm is the ones getting me to be in love with this novel. Along with "Eliana", they are two of my very first read Indonesian novel, so I can't help but fond of them. Might be my comfort book, you may find me reading this when I feel like I want to, plus including skipping the parts that are inappropriate for my liking. Uh also I like the film adaptation. Nidji's "Di Atas Awan" >>>. The flow is more than okay, I love every bit of it. Also the delivery of Indonesian social issues plus the typical young, fresh graduated friendship that brings laughter and warmth, and surely the love triangle--rectangle (?) drama between them will welcome you to their journey in getting hope and dreams in Mahameru.

"MEGA BESTSELLER" was written at the corner of the book's cover and the review at the back cover basically said that the book was very very good, plus it has a really cool cover, so I thought it would worth reading. I did not bother to read the first chapter where the author introduced each of the characters. Readers should be able to find out more about a character through the story, after all, not through a detailed description at the beginning of the story. It was actually a turn off for me, but I kept reading. The story would have progressed faster if the author did not throw in songs and famous people's quotes here and there and just get into the main point. The first few chapters felt more like a filler to me (the five friends cutting contact off and all). The book's about the friends going on a hike all along, but the author just took a roundabout way to get to it. I ended up skipping the rest of the book and went straight to the ending. Though there is one thing that I like: hang your dreams 5 cm in front of your forehead so that you can always see it and keep on chasing after it.

The story is about five friends who have been friends for seven years. There are: Genta, who considered as the leader of their friendship. Zafran, the artsy-kind-of-guy that in the future, he wants to be a famous poet. Riani, the only female friend in that group who has a bubbly personality. Arial, the most handsome guy in the group, who shares the same font name “Arial”, which is the font that I’m typing right now, it is because he has a bold body, get it ? And last but not least, there is Ian. The story is about five friends who have been friends for seven years. There are: Genta, who considered as the leader of their friendship. Arial, the most handsome guy in the group, who shares the same font name “Arial”, which is the font that I’m typing right now, it is because he has a bold body, get it ? And last but not least, there is Ian. The chubbiest guy in the group, who is a football maniac, and avid fan of various “blue” film. One day, triggered by their boredom between one and the other, they decided not to communicate for three months. Parted for three months period, there are much things that going on makes their hearts feel fulfilled than before. After the three months of “We’re-Not-Going-To-Communicate-For-Three-Months-Because-We-Are-Bored.” That kind of thing, they celebrated their parted-ways-thing with a field trip. Okay, enough revealing the plot, let’s get down to the review! I’m going to write it down as good as I can, it’s because I sucked at reviewing books. But not comic books, though! Review: The young adult story about friendship for over seven years is the rarest and little bit unrealistic. The rare thing is, when I read it, they shared the same interest(s). For example: Music and film (In the novel). Now, this is the rarest thing that will happens for certain people, like me! For instance, I like comic books because my brother in his college years, left me some Indonesian-translated comic books that can you found on certain used-books store today. I read it comics to comics, characters to characters, until the certain comic company made a movie(s) about it. When you found one of a person who likes it. Sometimes you compared, debated, and favorited who has the same interested as you. Gradually, you became friends, or, the best case scenario, when you have opposite gender who has same interest as you, same as I mentioned above, you became friends, then you start dating him/her, and then live happily ever after. That is an uncut diamond, people! Because it’s rare to have friendship like that. . Friend(s) come and go, because time is not on our side. However, the unrealistic part of a friendship is, from my experience, my duration being a friend only lasted for about two to three years. As the novel told the story, their friendship is still intact for seven years old and still counting. I don’t know how they do it, but they have magic of their own. But for me, I began my introversion on my junior high years, it is because some of them are hard for me to adapt for having minimum same interest(s) as me. My phase two of the introversion has been developed in my high school year, where people has barely has the same interest as me. But, some people make friends by only shows your existential to the people who wants to be popular on your schools. Don’t be like that In most humble opinion, in this novel, on the friendship part, it taught me you don’t have to do anything only just want your name to have a reputation. You just have to show you who really are underneath the mask, and let someone can accept your imperfection. Because the world is an imperfect place. Overall, 10/10 would read it again.

Various interesting things happening for 3 months. Thesis, relationship, internship and other spectacular things. After three months the meeting finally happened and celebrated with a trip to Semeru Mountain. 5 cm is a book with full of inspiration, passion, and various small example how life is really beautiful. The strength of this book is there are a lot of valuable quotations. I often heard the quote "The best people are benefit for others." Not just a piece of meat that can talk, walk, and had a name. But they can ultimately reaching their dreams that they dream long ago. In my opinion, the climax of passion and reflection of life in this book there is on Deniek letter to Adrian. In this context, I could really absorb the meaning of the word "The best people are benefit for others." Emotions are very strong in the letter. Climax sequel is where Ian was not aware for some time. Zafran was screaming. Riani cry. The ending climax when they reached the top of Mahameru and follow the flag ceremony on August 17. I rarely find Indonesian novel that is as good as this (probably not too much Indonesian novel I read). These are several of my comments: 1. This book is a daily life book that is really familiar with real life (although still it's too perfect if compared with real 'real life'). I read the comic book version before this. Now I know that the novel version more colorful and give stronger picture of each character, the plot and the setting. I am glad to re-read the novel version. Hope I can find this qualified book next time !!!

The ending is super shallow, it is like the life of all of the character is heavily influenced by that hike that all of them ended in such pairings. it will be much more better if the book ends when they reaches the top of the mountain, it serves as a better ending rather than this book actual ending. well it is subjective view, and for a book, if you dont enjoy it at first, it is hard to focus on that book and i think my judgement is heavily influenced by that. for me it's just another book that i buy because of its title (similar to my favourite anime movies) and after reading it i feel nothing for the story or the character, and annoyed by how the story unfolds.

When I first read it, I thought it was a story about best friends who go through some kind of change in their friendship. But it wasn't. The plot was unclear and jumps from one plot to another. The style of writing and the point of the story - if you can call it a story at all - simply do not go with one another. Also, the characterising of the characters wasn't made clear and real. And how strange that at such an age, after going through a lot, that they have never seen anyone else. Don't they have friends of their own, each and every one of them? The whole book just makes me feel like nothing is real, it's no different from reading a school book about how you should behave with empathy and kindness. Except it would've been more straight forward.

I read this book when I studied in university, so I felt that story was me :p. Story about journey to Semeru, is the most interesting part from whole story. I can't tell more, you should read it!! FYI, I don't have that book, coz I gave to my best friend.

Could be great but honestly it's an editing mess. I find it plotless, like a journal the author wrote with a sprinkle bit of fiction. I think I will be enjoying it more if I read it as a journal/blog post. The best part of this book is the cover. Also I can't deny that the author has a wide span of knowledge, from which we can learn a thing or two. The worst part? The characters. The wooden, preachy, and singing-too-much characters (except for Ian, the clown of the group. I like him. Though his ' Could be great but honestly it's an editing mess. Though his 'teletubbies' joke are getting old after a few chapter) Liking some songs or quoting a movie didn't mean you have personality, for God's sake. The conversations are like monologue, I don't know who's saying what! And the ending is just trying too much to be cute. Definitely not for me, but maybe for you. Good for you then.

Actually, I don't really like with the ending part of this story, but it doesn't make me less liking the book.
