While reunions can take many forms, there is always one question that has to be answered sooner or later—what happened? Vance had always been extremely proud of Noella, and just because his life had been ruined, he saw no reason why she had to have the same faith. When his dad died, leaving him and his mother penniless, he dropped out of law school and ended his relationship with Noella, but in doing so, he stopped a scandal that could have ruined her family. These secrets he would never let her know. Ironically, years later, he would have never guessed she would be instrumental in ruining his career with the Tampa police force. After Noella finished law school and started pursuing her goal of working up the ranks in judgeships, she never considered inviting another guy into her life. As such, when someone attempts to threaten her into vacating her seat on the bench, and by force if necessary, she knows of no one else she really trust as much as Vance, who now has a successful bodyguard and private detective business. She knows that Vance might hate her for her part in having him dismissed from the police force, but what he will never know is that she actually saved him from going to prison. Additionally, she now thinks he was framed, and perhaps by the same people who are threatening her. She had to talk him into taking her on as a client . . . but would he agree to her request? As the number of attacks on her life increases, Vance soon has no choice but to offer her his protection, and in spite of everything, when they see each other again their old attraction for each other returns. She wants the truth. He wants the truth. However, making the ultimate sacrifice is not always easy to understand, whether given or received. Ultimately . . . could they now trust each other with these secrets? While their lives depend on discovering the truth to their past, these truths are locked in deep secrets that could also destroy them. This novel is available also in paperback, hardback, and audio.

And mostly I just thought "How could you mess that up?" The writing is simple and straightforward. This is not a poetic or complexly written novel by any means. But it's so simple that the errors stand out. As for the story, I quite enjoyed it. The balance of romance and suspense worked well, but I felt like the story focused on Vance's investigation more than anything else. I kinda thought the story was going to be about Noella, but it felt more like a story about Vance. Noella only got on my nerves when she had to remind herself that she was a judge and had to behave in a certain way. If you have to remind yourself to behave differently, maybe you should look into a profession where your behavior isn't looked upon so severely. Just a thought. I never felt like I understood why Noella wanted to be a judge so badly. But it also didn't really matter to the story, so I let it slide. I'd recommend this story, but I'd first recommend that the book be edited. By a professional. Or a 7th grader. Either would be able to catch the errors.

This was an enjoyable read. The pace was good, the characters believable and the story line true to life. Her Honor's Bodyguard (Kindle Edition) by Johnny Ray was an interesting raead with plenty of two-fisted action and steamy sex scenes. The plot was equal parts mystery and romance. I can't honestly say that this book has turned me into a Johnny Ray fan because it certainly didn't do that. He writes sex scenes like a woman but that might be excusable because he was describing those scenes through a woman's eyes. Perhaps he was writing this story more for the female readers than for us men. A love and a passion is what Vance and Noella had when they parted with deep hurt feelings. He was forced off the police force, knowing what she knows now was he framed. She did what she had to do back then to save him. Now as a judge the threats she is getting are too many, she needs his Bodyguard service.

I won a free e-book copy of Her Honor's Bodyguard from LibraryThings. Her Honor's Bodyguard is Mystery/Romantic Thriller and I want to first off say that this is my first mystery book I have ever read so I was a bit skeptical about the genre. Call me lazy, but I do not really enjoy mysteries because I get really impatient with all the unanswered questions, guessing games and whodunit. However, this did not stop me from enjoying this novel and its safe to say that I think I will now start reading I won a free e-book copy of Her Honor's Bodyguard from LibraryThings. Call me lazy, but I do not really enjoy mysteries because I get really impatient with all the unanswered questions, guessing games and whodunit. However, this did not stop me from enjoying this novel and its safe to say that I think I will now start reading more mystery novels thanks to Her Honor's Bodyguard. The story starts off with a prologue of sorts where it feels like the author is telling you parts of the story because he does not want to find time later in the novel to explain it, which right off the back puts the story off for me. Reading it, I was a bit confused because I did not know what to make of the story yet and by telling us of the things to come in the story made me almost not want to go through the trouble of reading it. There are more clever ways of inputting backstory or information that happened before the story actually starts. In the prologue you are introduced to Vance and Noella, the protagonists of the story who used to be in a relationship that Vance ended himself, but it is yet revealed exactly why. Noella and Vance were in Law School until Vance had to drop out due to his father's untimely death. Noella continues and goes onto becoming a judge. It is later discovered that Vance who joined the Tampa Police was forced to resign and disgraced from a scandal which Noella was a key factor in him being removed because she was the judge given his case. They are then thrust back into each other's lives when there are threats made to Noella's life and she entrusts Vance to become her personal bodyguard. From there Vance works quickly to protect Noella's life and discover who is behind the attempts and why. While taking her case, Vance learns that Noella's threats may also hold the answers to the conspiracy surrounding his forced resignation and determines that he was set up, it may very be the same people who set him up that are after Noella. Throughout the story, Noella and Vance's romance spark and they try to come to terms what happened to their relationship. I will start off with the things that I did not like about this novel: 1. There was several grammatical errors, like using faith when he meant to use fate. There was also awkward phrases that could of been rephrase to flow better. 2. The Vance at times spoke was a bit frustrating. I found it a little unbelievable. Part of great literature is that characters don't always say the right words or say what they mean just like in real life in regards to people. Then it was frustrating that Noella would tell him several times in the novel that she loved him but he refused to say them because he "wanted to wait for the right moment." very cheesy! 3. I not exactly too thrilled about the ending and about how things wrapped up so nicely and again very cheesy. The whole story is about a mystery he is trying to solve and when it gets to the solution, it happens so rapidly that you hardly have time to grasp it. Things I like: 1. It was a very good story plot that had a beginning, middle and end. Despite my disappointment with the ending it did leave a little mystery at the end of the story that did leave me wanting more. 2. I thought the development of Noella and Vance's relationship was really sweet and genuine but I do feel there are a lot of unanswered questions regarding their relationship. By the ending I assume there would be another book to answer these questions 3. My first mystery novel ever unless you count the goose bump books lol, and I think the author did a pretty good job with the thriller elements and keeping you on your toes. In conclusion, I enjoyed this story. It was a fun, quick and easy read. Johnny Ray, now has me interested in reading more mystery novels and I will definitely read his others novels if the opportunity provides itself. I gave Her Honor's Bodyguard a rating of 3-3.5 stars because I like the book and Noella and Vance's story should it continue really has great potential. The author was good at creating suspense and action and it was a very interesting plot. I recommend it for anyone who was reluctant to read mysteries like I was.

Her Honor's Bodyguard Have you ever read a book that kept your attention the entire time? It kept getting better and better? After reading it, you want there to be a sequel and a movie about it? Well, I went into reading Her Honor's Bodyguard with no expectation. I liked the other 2 books I had read by Johnny Ray and thought, "It will be hard to live up to those past 2 books." However, I have to say this book was better than the first 2 by this author. Why? After reading it, you want there to be a sequel and a movie about it? Well, I went into reading Her Honor's Bodyguard with no expectation. I liked the other 2 books I had read by Johnny Ray and thought, "It will be hard to live up to those past 2 books." However, I have to say this book was better than the first 2 by this author. Why? The plot, characters, storyline, words seemed to have a perfect interplay that flowed throughout the entire story. There were no out of place sentences or words that didn't quite feel right. Instead there were symmetry between the it all. It made for a great read! The book was intense and could be seen as addictive as the tv shows, New York Undercover, CSI & The Wire. Also it was even better than the movies, Blow and Bodyguard. It was a story that had so many obstacles that kept presenting themselves for both Noella and Vance. The life of illusion and reality was easily molded together to represent an authentic plot and believable characters. Having a man who wasn't rich his whole life, who had to encounter real struggles that the average man goes through and even those criminals experience, made for an interesting storyline. Vance could be considered a man with very bad luck and a life that would have most drinking from a glass bottle every day. However, he is driven to do what he knows he can to clear his name, as well as that of his father. With the crimes he and his dad have committed, maybe everything can't be cleared but he hopes that he can make it in life. He may have went foggy and not remembered every detail, when he was accused of some bogus charges. He felt everything wasn't adding up. Something just didn't seem right. He knows he is dealing with some dirty people; he just doesn't know how he can get answers and prove his innocence. However what he doesn't expect is to have his services requested by a past love he left, his beautiful ex, Noella Peterson. He also doesn't dare believe what happens in minutes of them reconnecting. Life could actually get more twisted! There are some very worldly characters that don't play by the rules in this plot. There are some many events that kept you guessing but not quite sure what would happen for quite some time. These are some events that cause Noella and Vance to be thrown back into each others lives. Who is telling the truth about the past? Who will be proven innocent? And who guilty? Will Vance seek revenge for his life ending up in shambles, by an ex who ruined his and his mother's life? Life is definitely a mess and it may not get better? What to do in that case? Vance is broke and has been for many years. It seems that life isn't fair and has dealt Noella a prosperous hand. Will Vance assist or take advantage of his work being needed by her? Will he finally give her what was coming to her-payback? What roles do their families play in the demise that led to his dad's life ending? To him and his ex splitting? Justice is not prevailing and there are some life threats that lead to death. This is a story that all readers of all genres would like because once again, Johnny Ray has put together the perfect plot. The characters are even more addictive to read about. The cover and title give you a hint to what the book is about, but the plot has one waiting for a sequel. If you want a sequel, you want to read more. This is a book that made me feel fulfilled. One that I didn't want to end.

Ever. That said, I had no idea what to expect from Her Honor's Bodyguard. I was going in blind but I did know it was imperative that I NOT treat this book like other romance books that I've read and that I not have all of the same criteria as with other books in the romance genre. Let me repeat that I enjoy books that don't drag on before with overdone back stories or unnecessary scenes before the conflict is revealed. That said, Her Honor's Bodyguard did not disappoint in that area. The beginning was straight forward with no unnecessary information to clog up the flow of the story, but yet had enough of the right information so that I was not left floundering or unable to connect with Noella and Vance. The story progressed at a brisk but not unattainable pace and with a romantic thriller I really appreciated that. There's no re-hashing and total dissection of Noella and Vance's previous relationship, only snippets. This ensured that the story didn't get stuck in "Romantic Angst Territory" thereby losing its status as a Romantic thriller. Her Honor's Bodyguard is like a well made cake that is welcome at any occasion. It has a healthy dose of suspense, mystery and action that will appeal to men, and a dash of romance that will attract women and keep the story from becoming stale and one dimensional. The characters, even the villains were well thought out and believable, there wasn't a single scene where I rolled my eyes. I enjoyed that the danger Noella and Vane were in brought them closer together and forced them to confront their pasts, but not in a way that would, again, turn Her Honor's Bodyguard into an ordinary romance novel. My only criticism is that I could have gone for a little more imagery and a little less dialogue between Vance and Noella, but that is a relatively minor and personal preference. So if you're looking for a read that is appealing to both men and women then Her Honor's Bodyguard is for you.

The book is about two people Noella and Vance. Both still have feelings for each other even after seven years when Vance chose to end their relationship. Noella having a privileged life finished law school, and went on to be a successful judge. Framed for the murders of innocent women, Vance was forced to leave the police force. He did start his own Private Investigation company in hopes of being able to put himself through law school. The book starts out with Noella seeking out Vance’s services to protect her, and work on solving the mystery why she’s being threatened to step down as a judge. However Vance isn’t so keen on the idea of working for Noella since he’s still working to clear his own name, plus they have a history together. After speaking to him about her case he agrees to think it over but before he can, an attempt to abduct Noella is thwarted by him, ending in a dead body. Knowing that she needs protection, he accepts the case and agrees to bodyguard her till they can solve who is behind the threats. She also tells him she has some information that may help clear his name and prove he was framed. I enjoyed this book. I love the mix of romance and suspense it was perfect harmony. I feel like the characters are really well developed, so that you easily connect with them. Noella and Vance were written well and their relationship worked for me. There are a lot of characters in the book which can be overwhelming but I think the author handled it well, by not just giving them names but giving us a chance to get to know them. The web of mystery was really good, I love all the twists and turns, it kept me on my toes. I love that the romance part wasn’t overshadowing the book, but it was hinted here and there. A very entertaining read. That gives you everything you could ask for in a romantic suspense thriller.

Judge Noella Peterson, her former lover Vance, the Police Department, street gangs, and an attempt on the judge's life are all mixed together for an interesting mystery. No one had any clue as to why Noella was being targeted and being shot at in her home and on the street. Of course she was a judge and had put people away, but she couldn't imagine what case would have caused someone to want her dead. Now that Vance was hired as her bodyguard, he and Noella were working together trying to sort out Judge Noella Peterson, her former lover Vance, the Police Department, street gangs, and an attempt on the judge's life are all mixed together for an interesting mystery. No one had any clue as to why Noella was being targeted and being shot at in her home and on the street. Of course she was a judge and had put people away, but she couldn't imagine what case would have caused someone to want her dead. Now that Vance was hired as her bodyguard, he and Noella were working together trying to sort out cases that might give them a clue about what was causing this sudden interest in having Noella eliminated, and he definitely was going to try to clear his name for good with the information Noella had. When she hired Vance for her bodyguard, she indicated she had some inside information about Vance's conviction seven years ago that had gotten him kicked off the police force and most likely framed. This information about being framed was definitely of interest to Vance, and he wanted to know more. I can't say the book was suspenseful, but it did keep your interest because of learning how things work in the background in the police force, in gangs, and in the courts. As Vance worked with the police force to help solve the case, he sensed that they really were not willing to let him in on the information they had, and they may even be trying to get his own case reopened and tried again. Along with all the investigation on this case, there was also another connection that was closer than Noella, Vance, and Noella's father knew.....or maybe someone did know the connection and wasn't giving out any details. It was a quick, enjoyable read with a surprise ending along with another major theme of the rekindling of the relationship between Noella and Vance, but who doesn't like a little romance? ENJOY!!! 4/5 This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

But then I hated that the story description is right up front, which kind-of takes away from the mystery of starting reading a new book. I prefer not having that description in my mind before I start reading. It got worse though - there was also an unnecessarily long copyright statement AND an author bio in the beginning! It felt like the author was too full of himself and just wanted to brag. That kind of stuff needs to be in the back, after I read the story itself to determine whether or not that sort of accolade is earned. It was like someone told me what a gift was before I got to unwrap it - I was very turned off and just wanted to dive into the book, not wade through those pages before finding the story. Sadly, the story itself didn't make up for it's rocky start. Some of the phrasing was very awkward, and there were a whole lot of spelling and grammatical errors. The story didn't draw me in and had some really awkward bad porno moments in it. It was too predictable, and too sexual, for my tastes. Perhaps if you like overly sexual stories you might like this.

Her Honor’s Bodyguard is a gripping cross between mystery and romance that had me hooked from the very beginning. You quickly come to care about Vance and Noella and as the story progresses you find out about both their secrets and why they each hurt the other. The idea that each did what they thought best for the other, while appearing to hurt or betray the one they loved (for their own good) is too true to life to not affect the reader. At times you want to throw things at people in the book and others you want to pull them into a hug, sheltering them from the pain / emptiness they suffer. Oh, and before you assume who the baddies are… patience is the best idea – it’s not who you think. ;) Her Honor’s Bodyguard is an eBook that I heartily recommend to any that love a bit of love with their suspense. I gave this book 3 1/2 drops only because of some of the editing issues. The story itself is a solid 4+ drops!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I would put this as a 3 1/2 stars. It was interesting enough to keep reading, but some of the scenes were a little off for a police drama with a small amount of romance. Scene where Noella is almost abducted, talking about removing the body and having a white line around where the body was. Forensics would not have any kind of setup to disrupt the crime scene. Later, when Vance is in the middle of the climax, he takes out a couple of bad guys with the FBI, and then is allowed to leave the scene I would put this as a 3 1/2 stars. There was a small amount of exploration between both Noella and Vance, but doesn't seem to be enought to just go off and get married at the end. With the timeline of the story, I believe it was too quick. I would think either of them would want to take time, due to being hurt from the breakup 7 years ago. Other than some info dumps and quirky scenes, the wrinting was well done. Would have preferred a little more in the way of character development throughout the story, but that is just my opinion.

OK this was a free book, so I can't be too harsh, but I would not tell anyone to pay a penny for the book. Sorry to the author, I wanted to like it because I work in the legal field, but this book was not even close to being believable. There is no way on earth a judge would legally be able to influence a police chiefs decision on having a police officer forced out of work. A judge can only hear a case that is before him or her, if no case is filed, a judge does get involved. Plus there is no way a judge would ever issue a ruling on a case where he or she had a past sexual relationship with a party. This would be considered a conflict of interest. Judge's have to avoid all appearances of improprietary. I could not get past these facts to enjoy the book. Mr. Ray, you need to find a new editor, as your current editor is seriously lacking. FYI the way you used the word "discrete" is actually spelled "discreet."

This was billed as a romantic suspense novel and it did not disappoint. I loved the plot, heavy enough to keep my interest but not too heavy to lose me. It was believable and I could easily put myself into the shoes of either protagonist. I loved, loved, loved the character of Noella. She was tough yet feminine, hard yet soft, professional yet sexy and knew how to wield her power in and out of the courtroom. Her former love interest, Vance, a former cop turned private investigator/security pro, back in her life again to help solve the case that separated them seven years ago, was intense and knew how to handle himself with power and ease in every situation. The chemistry between them was hot! Would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in this genre. Looking forward to reading more from this author. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This book is one that kept my interest from the beginning. This is book one. The second book is titled Rescuing Her Honor. Vance and Noella had a love affair years ago in law school. Vance walked away from Noella not because he no longer loved her, but because he loved her so much he was trying to protect her. Vance use to be on the police force but was falsely accused of using excessive force. Are the problems Noella and Vance run into connected? Are your friends really who you think they are? This book was both a romance and a mystery. I highly enjoyed it and can't wait to read the second book.

I enjoyed this book, due to the action, danger, and suspense. We can't forget about the romance. When you include those elements, it seems to make the book. I liked the ideas that that Noella and Vance had done 'what was best' for each other in the past. Doing 'what's best' for someone has a habit of coming back and biting you, usually when least expected. However, when Noella needed Vance, he was there for her. This was an enjoyable story, with good pace, characters that I cared about and a satisfying ending. I would have given it more stars but it definitely needs another edit. The beginning is a little clunky in places though once the book gets going it gets better. It seems that the author may have a 'tick' though - I've never heard anyone say a character 'did such' or 'thought such' or 'went to such' but this particular phrasing appears all the way through and after the first couple it did get rathe This was an enjoyable story, with good pace, characters that I cared about and a satisfying ending. If you can ignore the beginning and the 'suches', however, it really is an entertaining tale and worth a read :).

Despite other reviewers, I found this book enjoyable and read it in one day. The only plot problem I could find was why Noella"s father had the bank receipt for Vance's fathers off shore accounts if he had nothing to do with the fathers "suicide". He never explained why the bank receipt was in his pocket. Did I miss something? Might be a few grammatical errors and spelling errors, but only about 4 throughout the book. And Amazon does let you know when a revision is available for you to download. Despite other reviewers, I found this book enjoyable and read it in one day. Story is good Editing is not good. Many words were wrong (amour instead of armor), some phrases were wrong "lean backward" instead of bend over backward, incorrect verb tense often and singular instead of plural too many times (for example: one of her leg or pair of pant.) Plot was good, mystery was good, character development was good. If this was edited it would be great, but unfortunately it was not. Story is good Editing is not good. This book was fast paced action from beginning to end. It had a strong and unique story line. The characters were bold and believable. If the editor had loved it as much as I do, I could have given it five stars.

I truly enjoyed reading this book. I could not put it down. So full of suspense, thrills, action and of course, romance. The story was well thought out. I love the characters. They are all full of surprises. Well written. A definite must read. Highly recommended.

I liked the plot, but I struggled with the writing style. The story did not flow for me, I guess I could describe it as too formal. It felt like I was reading an English paper not a novel.
