This is essential reading for anyone making a pilgrimage to France. The book divides up by area and city. The first part of each section is a short biography of saints or apparitions from that region. The passages were brief but thorough. Though I've read much about some of these saints, I felt I learned something in each biography. After important religous sites are detailed, including when they were built, what happened there, other areas of note, bookstores, whether the caretakers speak english, quiet areas for meditation and much more. There are directions, eating and lodging information. The material on lodging includes several monasteries that welcome guests and there is a handy section in the back on what to expect when staying in monasteries. Since the book was published in 2004 you will want to consult a more current travel guide for essentials of your trip. The only disappointment was the section on meditating with the saints. It was full of relaxation and breathing techniques. While these can be useful, I was much more interested in learning how the authors talk and listen to the saints. sadly, that was not covered.
