dear author: you can not add details to a book just to make the situation easier. at one point Taylor said "I wish I had called her back" then on the next page she says "I talked to him yesterday" but he was mad at her and if they really had talked then things would have been figured out. To say that some guy that we have never heard of was like a grandfather to him his whole life so he paid for everything....I was so confused who this guy was! I also didn't like the premarital sex, I don't agree with it or think it is a good idea but I was glad there weren't details. It made things move WAY too fast!! oh and then the whole broken engagement. meet a guy then engaged to him. in 2 days! so lame!!! Not realistic at all. I wish there had been a few weeks at least between the breakup and the get together. I just couldn't get over that and really it ruined the rest of the book for me. I couldn't even appreciate the suppposed romantic parts. This book bugged me so much I have no desire to read now. Ugh.

Would you settle for marrying a man that you had to convince yourself was "the one," and deceive yourself into believing that you are in love with him? Or would you go with your attraction and feelings for another man, and have the courage to follow your heart? This is the dilemma that twenty-three year old Maggie Robin found herself facing in On the Rim of Love. Maggie Robin has a bright future ahead of her, she just graduated from college, she has been accepted into Yale Law School, and her TV Would you settle for marrying a man that you had to convince yourself was "the one," and deceive yourself into believing that you are in love with him? Or would you go with your attraction and feelings for another man, and have the courage to follow your heart? This is the dilemma that twenty-three year old Maggie Robin found herself facing in On the Rim of Love. Maggie Robin has a bright future ahead of her, she just graduated from college, she has been accepted into Yale Law School, and her TV producer boyfriend of two years, Jeffrey Preston, has proposed to her, could she want anything more? Not everything is perfect in her life, Maggie's dream since childhood is to be a renowned photographer, not an attorney, that was always her mother's dream, not hers. She's also not sure if she is really in love with Jeffrey, and if she really wants to marry him. But she convinces herself that she has a perfect life, and that she can't do any better than this, so why change it ... or so she thinks ... Jeffrey Preston is a thirty year-old successful cable TV producer, the heir apparent to a huge cable network, that is if he can let go of his wild lifestyle and settle down as dictated by his father, the chairman of the network. He has an aggressive, pompous air about him, he takes no prisoners and knows how to get what he wants, when he wants it. To satisfy his father's demands he chooses Maggie as his wife, their union would help him climb the corporate ladder. Jeffrey takes Maggie and another couple on a skiing trip to British Columbia, to supposedly celebrate their engagement, but in reality it turns out to be a working trip. Jeffrey is going to produce a documentary on a skier that will attempt to ski the dangerous off-piste terrain of the Needle Eye slope, part of the Eagleville mountains. The daredevil skier, is handsome twenty-three year old Taylor Denton, and when Maggie and Taylor meet, the electricity of attraction flies between them, that sets off a dangerous love triangle that could have serious ramifications for them all. Does Maggie stick by Jeffrey and their engagement, or does she follow her heart and turn to Taylor? Will the love triangle have life-changing ramifications for Maggie, Jeffrey and Taylor? Come visit them at the beautiful Eagleville Ski Resort and see what happens next when they're On the Rim of Love. On the Rim of Love stays true to the contemporary romance genre, it provides the reader with a story that has enough romance mixed with intrigue and suspense that is truly sigh worthy. I absolutely loved the storyline, it was well written and fast-paced, I was so intrigued by Maggie, Jeffrey and Taylor's story, that I couldn't put the book down. The characters in the story had dynamic personalities, their intertwining lives gave the story a realistic feel that engages the reader. I loved the love triangle concept, in true romance tradition, it had a princess, a prince charming and a villain. I was completely engrossed in the intrigue and suspense of the love triangle. The author's description of the British Columbia landscape and Eagleville ski resort was breathtaking. I found myself closing my eyes and I could actually visualize the mountain scenery and ski village. When a reader can be transported to the place described in a story, you know that the book is worth reading. The description of the skiing scenes, especially that of the dangerous off-piste skiing scene, kept me on the edge of my seat, it was a pure adrenaline rush that had me wishing for my younger days when I went on ski trips. Finally, there is nothing better than steamy love scenes in a romance novel, and I was not disappointed, Maggie and Taylor's blossoming attraction for one another was truly worthy of many sighs. On the Rim of Love is an engaging, beautiful romance novel that will completely satisfy every contemporary romance fan! It just got so simplistic and everything just works out magically. Lame. There will be spoilers ahead as I will be talking about the ending so you are warned. Also, while not a Christmas story I count it since it is all snowy and wintry. The story starts off pretty well. Maggie is obviously used to just going along with things and doesn't stand up for herself or what she wants. As annoying as that can be, as much as I want to be like do what you want!!, I can understand how one could just go with the flow. She is engaged to Jeffrey and man, what a lame-o. His proposal is all about his job, not really about how much he loves her and wants to be with her. Then they go on an engagement trip which is really a business trip and he seems he doesn't care about her at all, and she just goes along with it. She does have some hesitancy, does start to get angry at times but then thinks no I will not do this now. For the most part she is just like I think I love him so...then she meets Taylor's grandparents on the ski slopes and her first day there and the grandmother says something about how Jeffrey must be her true love. What does Maggie do? Gets super pissed off at them for saying that. Um what? You are so angry because someone said they are happy you are marrying the love of your life? Okay...it didn't really make sense. I mean yes she has doubts, but why get so angry and why is she marrying him? Then she meets Taylor and there is an instant connection with the two, though both try and deny/avoid it. They both know she is Jeffrey's fiance. Of course then we really get to see what a horrible person Jeffrey is when they all go skiing and Jeffrey almost gets himself killed and gets embarrassed by Taylor for screwing up majorly. Well Jeffrey will have none of that, he can do what he wants, so he promptly leaves Maggie to go try and figure something else out for his movie (oh yeah, he is making a documentary about Taylor skiing an un-skiable section of the mountain). Once he leave you get the shocking discovery that he cheats on Maggie so Maggie breaks up with him. Then she starts hanging out with Taylor and one things leads to another. They were sweet together, and yes it was fast but I didn't really care. She was so much better with Taylor than with Jeffrey, and Taylor was so supportive of her dreams. So about half way through the book everything is great. Taylor and Maggie have gotten together, Jeffrey seems like he is cool with is, or will be fine and just wants to be professional. All is well. Then all quickly starts to go downhill. Everything started to get too simple, too easy to fix, and just was bad. The first thing that happened? Jeffrey is all sneaky, takes Maggie to the airport when she is going home to break the news of her engagement to Taylor to her family and spend some time with them. Jeffrey kept Taylor tied up in a meeting, stole Taylor's phone, then canceled Maggie's cab so he drover her. Taylor wanted to try and say goodbye so drove as fast as possible to the airport only to see Jeffrey. Jeffrey tells him sorry dude, Maggie and I are back together. You were just a vacation fling. What does Taylor do? Well not much. He is kind of upset, but he doesn't really do anything. He instantly believes Jeffrey for some reason...I am not sure why. He doesn't try and call Maggie or talk to her at all in the coming days. He tells his friends and everyone that Jeffrey said they were back together and they all believe it. Why? I don't get it. Did no one see them together? Did no one see how in love they were? I mean it was shown that they were just so happy and in love, then the hurt ex says something and they just believe him? It just wasn't in character for them. Then why is Maggie not more concerned when she doesn't talk to Taylor for many days? It just doesn't make sense. Then after Taylor's accident, when Taylor is in a coma, Jeffrey calls Maggie and says Taylor died, but whatever you do not come here! His little speech was so odd it is like wait you are buying this? I mean the instant no! I can get. But once you have time to think about it? Why would everyone hate you? They blame you for Taylor skiing and getting caught in an avalanche? Sure...think for two seconds and again you will realize that is not in their character! I am just glad she did go anyway, and once she did everything was resolved in two seconds. She sees his friend Shawn who is at first upset, then Shawn sees Maggie is upset and all is good. She goes to the hospital and leads him out of the darkness and he has a miraculous recover! He just wakes up good as new! Yey! Boo. So lame. Oh but the worst part? Hannah and Shawn. Hannah has been in love with Taylor forever, Shawn in love with Hannah. So Hannah is sitting with Taylor and he calls for Maggie, so then she is hurt at first, but then instantly realizes that she is not in love with him. She just blew her adolescent crush way out of proportion. So then she sees Shawn and tells him how she is leaving town and he is all No! I love you! and she is all I love you too!! Wait what? You go from being in love with Taylor one moment to being in love with Shawn the next? With no hesitation or thinking at all? Really? At least stop and think about how great Shawn is and how he has been there for you or something, then slowly realize hey maybe I do love him. No oh I just thought I loved Taylor, now I love you! Lame lame lame. Way to just wrap everything up way too simply and quickly. Lame lame lame! And Taylor's dad also has a change of heart and they are dad and son again and close! Hooray! I'm not saying a near death experience wouldn't bring them closer, but the way it was handled was way too easy. Overall the first part of the book I was enjoying, but the last half was just not good.

I had never heard of this book before I was asked to review it and I have to admit, I was really excited to start. This story follows Maggie, a 22 year old girl who has just got engaged to her boyfriend of 2 years. However Maggie isn’t in a happy relationship and even though she tries, she knows deep down that Jeffery isn’t for her. When they go on their engagement trip to British Columbia to a ski lodge, it is there that she meets Taylor; a handsome skier. Maggie and Taylor’s attraction is undeniable but with Maggie being engaged to Jeffery, she has to really decide who and what she wants for her future but will Jeffery let Maggie go willingly? On the Rim of Love was a loving and likable story. It’s was a pretty easy read which was great because this is why I love contemporary romance novels. You can get lost in the story and know there will be a happy ending and the love interest is always to die for. This is what On the Rim of Love was and I enjoyed it! The main character Maggie was really likable and easy to connect with, despite her being quite unsure about her feelings for Jeffery and Taylor, she soon see’s who will truly encourage her to follow her dreams but not only that, become the women she has always wanted to become. It was really nice seeing her grow into that person. Now Taylor, I loved him. As soon as he came on the scene you just wanted to get to know him. I really enjoyed all the qualities he brought to the book too. Now the other characters like Jeffery and Bethany…..I really disliked. They were all shallow, selfish and were money hungry and from page one I hated them. None of them redeemed themselves either so I still dislike them now. So, overall Maggie and Taylor made this book for me. The story itself was likable; I have to admit I got kind of bored with the ski references so when Maggie bought in her Photography dreams, it was a welcome addition to the book. I also didn’t really think the end of the story with the light and dreams were necessary. I would have preferred that part cut out of the story but is what is it but still enjoyable nonetheless. If you’re looking for a light and quick read that will leave you satisfied, then this is the novel for you. I enjoyed it and I reckon you will too. Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy for review.

One week after their engagement Jeffrey surprises Maggie with a two week skiing trip, just the two of them. Then it becomes the four of them as Jeffrey invites their best friends along. As soon as they arrive at the Ritz resort Maggie learns the real reason for the trip is for Jeffrey to do some pre-production work on a new skiing documentary he is shooting of a hot shot ski bum who lives in the area. Instead of the romantic vacation she envisioned, Maggie ends up with a lot of time alone to think, ski, photograph the surrounding area, and fall head over heels for that hot shot ski bum. I won't give anything else away but you can probably figure out what happens next because well, On the Rim of Love was simply put, predictable. I really enjoyed the setting and the descriptions of the gorgeous mountainside but I found the story to be lackluster and the characters to be one-dimensional and lacking in depth. They were each written in a way that it was obvious whose side you should be on and which characters you should like and which characters were in the wrong. Take Jeffrey for example, an vengeful and arrogant producer who thinks his wife should stay at home while he makes the money, there wasn't one thing I liked about him. Same thing with most of the characters, they were either all good or all bad. When have you ever met anyone who didn't have one redeeming quality? It just felt flat and unrealistic to me. If you're just looking for something to keep you entertained by the pool or at the beach for a few hours, this will do the job. Just don't expect to keep thinking about it or remembering the characters after you finish the last page. 2 stars.

I wasn't sure I was going to like this one when I first starting reading it because I disliked Jeffrey immediately. And as the characters in the story, I had to question any Maggie's sensibilities when she let herself get forced into an engagement she wasn't really sure she wanted and then flown off for Vancouver for two weeks under the guise of an engagement trip only to learn mid flight it was actually for Jeffrey's work. WHAT?!?!? My feelings towards Maggie change once you see her and Taylor I wasn't sure I was going to like this one when I first starting reading it because I disliked Jeffrey immediately. WHAT?!?!? My feelings towards Maggie change once you see her and Taylor together. Taylor saw there was much more to Maggie than what was at the surface. He encouraged her to pursue her dreams, where others would brush it off as a silly hobby. He encouraged her to be her own person and be honest with those close to her. Once Maggie stopped doing things to please everyone else, she became someone that I liked. She could be stubborn and set in her ways, but it wasn't because she was fighting everyone telling her what to do, but instead to try and get her point across or prove that she could do something. Taylor seemed bigger than life. He was this daredevil skiier who wanted to have someone film him skiing an impossible pass in the mountains. But he was also a man who, would do anything for his friends, his family and his community. Even this filming wasn't about him, but to prove to naysayers that what his grandfather had done many years before could be done again. I enjoyed the book until we got to the 30 pages or so. Then it got kind of hooky with the whole tunnel, the light and the fog. But if you can let those last pages go, it was a perfect book to read on a Sunday afternoon.

When I read and reviewed this novel as an advance reader copy it was titled On the Rim of Love. Here's the review I wrote on Jan 22, 2012 on my blog, A Reader's Journal. The middle of December I received an email from Meghan Williams offering me an ebook copy of Astor's 3rd book. Since I knew I was receiving a Kindle for Christmas I jumped at the chance. My first ebook! As most of you know I am NOT a romance reader. Guess I overlooked that in my enthusiasm to load and read my first ebook. On the Rim of Love is a quick, light, easy romance. The main character, Maggie, is a smart, pretty girl who has been dating a rich, egotistical jerk for two years and hasn't figured out yet that he is a jerk. I'm not particularly smart but I had his number in the first few pages. Maggie accepts a proposal of marriage from this Neanderthal and then goes to Vancouver with him for a proposal celebration that turns into a business trip. And that's as much of the storyline I'm going to give away. The thing about Kindle is that it keeps track of the reader's progress through the book. I found it torturous at first to realize I had only read 35% and had so much more to read but when I reached 50% things started getting more interesting. I have to say that I rather enjoyed this book and found it to be a nice respite from the strenuous biography I was reading at the same time. If you are a romance reader, I think you will thoroughly enjoy On the Rim of Love. Let me just whisper the name Taylor to you...

Maggie thought her life was ok although Jeffrey isn't acting like the man she wants him to be. After graduating from college, her then boyfriend, Jeffrey, proposes. I thought Jeffrey was very much a jerk who I did not care for. He is a TV producer who always gets what he wants. Maggie was very young but still realizes that maybe Jeffrey isn't the one for her on their ski trip. The moment Maggie meets Taylor it felt different and was a pleasure to read. Jeffrey wouldn't give up and Taylor's friends were a bit weary of Maggie. But their attraction for each other prevailed. The accident was tragic and brought out a different pace. What happen towards the end with Taylor was very hart warming, along with who he saw in the light and what he did for his friend. I really enjoyed the ending and the epilogue. As the story progress I felt the pace was the same throughout the storyline which dip and peaked at times; however, still a likable love story. Ugh, he is one that I would have really liked to knock up side the head. Taylor, on the other hand, is a great guy. The story does happen in a fast time frame but I didn’t feel like it was unrealistic. Heck, we all know that life can change in a blink of an eye so I am not really one that questions instant love. Reading Smitten at First Sight was an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon and when I closed the book I was left with a smile and a thought of “that was really sweet.” The past year had been filled with love and heartache, hope and despair, but in the end, love and hope had triumphed. –Maggie (Smitten at First Sight by Marie Astor) * I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. --3.5 stars--

There are bits like that that just didn't sit too well with me. This is a light and fluffy contemporary romance where everything takes place within a week or so, so Insta-Love is a very big part of the story. This is an okay book for a rainy Sunday afternoon but don't expect it to stay with you once you have closed the back cover or turned off your e-reader. There were parts that I skipped (although I did go back in case I had missed something important) just because it seemed to be getting quite surreal. And this is from a fan of the Paranormal and Fantasy! If you want something light then give this a go.

No matter how much Maggie tries to resist Taylor's charm, sparks fly, and the two fall for each other, hard. But while Maggie may be thinking that she's finally met her true love, she and Taylor are far from finding their happily ever after - Jeffrey will not be swayed aside easily, and Taylor's friends have quite a few reservations about Maggie. Yet, as formidable as they may sound, all of these obstacles fall by the wayside when an unexpected accident puts Maggie's and Taylor's love in jeopardy. This love story has it all: attraction, intrigue, incredible connection between the main characters - read it, and prepare to be swept off your feet.

Enjoyed it but too long for it to be 35 chpaters. Even though Maggie thought she loved Jeffrey I'm glad to read that she finally knew what IN LOVE meant. The story itself was a bit draggy and it kind of left out people that were in it and next minute not. So I wished that it kind of showed how her friendship with Bethany went or whatever happened to her. It's sometimes sad to judge someone when you don't even know them like with the cases of Taylor's friends Hannah and Shawn. It sucks to always thi Enjoyed it but too long for it to be 35 chpaters. It sucks to always think that you can be the break up something that has been together since they were young and knowing that you were the cause of it. I mean in Maggie's case she didn't come across as a nasty GF (which some girls can be) but she understood and just kept to herself. I'm happy for Taylor and Maggie to finally be together and I wished the epilogue has shown Taylor's POV after his accident.

This book was fantastic!!! I could not put it down once I started reading it. There was not a single dull moment. Marie Astor did an amazing job with the storyline, setting, and characters. I absolutely LOVED Taylor Denton with his passion, determination, and laid back lifestyle. He is driven, loyal, smoking hot, and compassionate. Oh did I mention smoking hot!! Her talents include skiing and photography. A dose of mountian air and Taylor is just what she needs. Jeremy Preston is an arrogant, pompous, career and money driven bastard. There isn't a sincere bone in his body. You cant help but hate him. During this story I laughed and cried...sad tears and happy tears. Everyone will be Smitten By First Word!!!

I have come to realize that Marie Astor is one of the best contemporary romance authors. I love her writing style and this book did not disappoint me. I was pulled in from the beginning. It was great to see Maggie change her life to what her dreams were instead of letting Jeffrey control her while he lived his life as before her and trying to save his ego and still control Maggie while telling lies to everyone. Jeffrey gets what he deserves and Maggie & Taylor gets forever. This book has love, p I have come to realize that Marie Astor is one of the best contemporary romance authors. The author creates such heart-tugging chemistry between the main characters, Maggie and Taylor, that it simply makes it impossible for you to put the book down. I fell in love with Taylor from page one and I still can’t get him out of my mind! The book is also very well written – I was blown away by the descriptions of off-piste terrain. I am a skier myself, and Marie Astor definitely knows what she’s writing about. Every now and then I just want to lose myself in a great love story - Marie Astor's On the Rim of Love is such a story. On the Rim of Love reminds you what it's like to fall in love for the first time. I fell in love with Taylor from the first page I met him - now I'm dreaming of being swept off my feet just like Maggie. This is my third book by Marie Astor - I'm definitely adding her to my list of favorite romance authors. Solid 4 stars. This was a sweet contemporary romance, and falls in the PG-PG-13 realm. This could certainly be read by a ya. As an adult, I enjoyed it immensely. I've always been interested in skiing, but never actually done it. It's on my bucket list, though. This book has certainly made me more anxious to hit the slopes and experience the thrill firsthand. Interesting premise and good character development - as far as the romance genre goes, I really liked this book. I also liked the fact that the author developed supporting characters really well - Shawn and Hannah added an interesting side story line and I really liked Taylor's grandparents as well. There are huge plot holes all over this book. Inconsistencies galore and really ridiculous contrivances to introduce drama. (view spoiler)[ seriously, Taylor, you take the word of your fiancee's smarmy ex-fiance that she dumped you? You don't, like, even check with her about that first? (hide spoiler)] It's terrible. A wonderfully tender love story - if you like romance, you'll love On the Rim of Love. I kept thinking about Maggie and Taylor long after I finished the book.
