So when an invitation to the Woolyones' Costume Ball arives, Ewetopia knows her chance to shine has come at last. After trying on fifty-eight different costumes, she finally finds the perfect one--or so she thinks. But her wolf ensemble turns out to be none too popular with Rambunctious, Ramshackle, and Ramplestiltskin, so Ewetopia finds herself standing all alone again when a stranger enters the room. He is dressed simply as a sheep, but he is so handsome, none of the other sheep notice anything peculiar about his costume choice. Ewecalyptus, Ewetensil, and Heyeywe all look on as the newcomer chooses to dance with none other than Ewetopia. But as they dance across the floor, Ewetopia begins to wonder about her mysterious partner: Why is his growl so deep? Why does he have such long, sharp claws? And why does he keep calling her Mother?!!!

This Ewetopian tale is a very clever story about a sheep, a wolf and a night at the ball that just may end up with a bunch of ewes in a pot and a Big Bad Wolf holding a Ewetensil and quite possibly drinking Ewecalyptus tea, which would and wouldn't be very hot. Just when ewe think ewe know what will happen ewe get bombarded with an awful howling tantrum about a dirty room, some homework and personal hygiene. A story that is Rambunctious! It’s would be a good book to help students understand the importance of being who they are, and being proud of it. It could also be used to teach children not to make fun of others.

Some of the reviewers didn't care for this because they thought the moral wasn't clear enough. Sheesh. Sure, there's a bit of a lesson, but mainly it's *funny*! And if it seems to wordy or "tedious" because of the long awkward names of the sheep, you're reading it too young - try grade 2 or 3, those who know what Heyewe and Ramshackle and Ewecalyptus actually are.... Recommended to folks with a sense of humor. I will continue to look for more by the author and illustrator. Genre: Picture Books Publication Date: 2007 This book is hilarious! My second grade students loved it. It is about a sheep who just doesn't seem to fit into the sheep herd. Finally, she was invited to a costume ball. Unfortunately, she choose to come dressed as a wolf. It did not go over well until a wolf entered ball. Ewetopia must save the day. This book is also really good when trying to explain teir two words. Genre: Picture Books Publication Date: 2007 This book is hilarious! My second grade students loved it. This book made me laugh so hard!!! The wolf's childishness is so familiar for anyone who has been around a young child. Ewetopia craves the attention of her fellow ewes and rams. She dresses up in wild outfits just to be seen. But when she fails to attract and stun, she sees her invite to the Woolyones' Ball as her opportunity to finally be noticed. She tries on 57 costumes and ultimately picks a wolf suit that she is sure will get everyone’s attention. However, the other sheep think her costume is in very bad taste. And when a wolf arrives dressed as a sheep, the party really gets started. The wolf addresses Ewetopia as his mother, and Ewetopia uses that as leverage to get the wolf to release the sheep he plans to take home and cook. Lively watercolor illustrations capture the humor of the story and provide lots of details. This take on the familiar sheep/wolf dynamic features lots of wordplay and pun-filled names like Ewetopia, Ewecalyptus, Ramshackle and Rambunctious. The title is ideal for reading aloud and could be a springboard for comparing with other similar stories. Order if needed.

Ewetopia is a sheep who isn't comfortable in her own wool. No one notices the fashionable outfits she wears. A costume ball is her chance to dress to impress and she goes as a wolf which everyone derides as tasteless. At the party, a wolf dressed in sheep's clothing mistakes Ewetopia for his mother. When he reveals himself and snatches up the partygoers to eat, Ewetopia thinks quickly, and as his "mother," insists he first wash up, do his homework and clean his room. In this book, there was a sheep who liked to dress up because he didn't like his skin. That's why no one liked him. And then one day someone invited him to a birthday party, and he wore a wolf suit. No one liked his costume. The accomplished team of Helen Lester and Lynn Munsinger who created the Tacky series that we love so much has created an interesting story about a sheep who wears a wolf costume to a party. This story is a bit silly, but fun nonetheless. What is the moral of this? Be comfortable in your own skin? Because if you don;t, somebody else pretending to be somebody else might think that your fake skin is your real skin and . . . not eat you? Helen Lester's lessons don't work because they're too convoluted. They take what seems like a simple lesson and includes them in a narrative that ultimately doesn't make sense for what seems to be the intention of the story. Not my thing. What is the moral of this? It's an interesting story. It teaches that you couldn't see just the appearance, for example, some people have a good appearance and when they show how they really are, you are disappointed, so it's a good advice, don't look just to the appearance. This book is a bit tedious because of the tongue-in-cheek names of the characters. The moral of the story is good: it's best to just be yourself! It's a good read in the classroom when I want to talk with students about being who they are and being a good friend.
